You will grow your skills across core electronic engineering disciplines, by taking modules such as Digital Signal Processing, Power Electronics and Embedded Systems. You will further enhance your employability by studying Engineering Business Environment, a module that considers the opportunities and threats to business arising from environmental policy, legislation and societal change. In your final semester, you will be supported by our academics and technicians with your individual project, a substantial piece of work focused on your specific research interests.

You will be taught by staff who are carrying out research in areas including emerging memory devices, growth nano-structures and communications cabling. This means you will develop a thorough and up-to-date understanding of the context of electronic engineering in the 21st century.

Photography is the dominant visual medium of our day. It therefore opens doors to a wide range of exciting career paths, from practicing as a fine artist and freelancing across the commercial sector, to collaborating with the design, marketing and fashion industries.

On this course you’ll discover the full breath of the field of photography. Explore the history of photographic images, moving image, contextual studies and digital media, with professional practice at the heart of your learning. You’ll learn in industry-standard facilities, developing technical skills in various technologies with support from expert tutors. Work on live external client briefs and learn how to curate and exhibit your work to a professional standard.

You’ll create meaningful content that responds to contemporary global concerns and you are encouraged to be incredibly creative and experimental in your approach. In the first year, everyone will undertake a standard first-year syllabus, studying core modules in Constitutional and Administrative law, Contract Law, Criminal Law, and English and European Legal Contexts. A range of delivery and assessment styles will fully prepare students for subsequent years of study.

The focus on foundational legal knowledge and skills will continue in the second and third year with modules on Land Law, Law of Tort, and Equity and Trusts. You will also develop functional awareness through Inter-professional Legal Skills.

You will have the opportunity after your first year to focus your studies by selecting a preferred specialism pathway in one of the following areas: Business Law, Criminal Justice, Human Rights & Social Justice, Sociolegal Studies and International Law. Alternatively, you can continue on the Law LLB pathway.

The emphasis is on doing rather than simply reading and listening; participation is a central feature of this course. The teaching of the law modules is augmented by a range of employability and placement activities. The aim is to produce confident, independent learners.

This program focuses on detailed decisions about the design and construction of buildings and their immediate surroundings. Architectural Technology is concerned with new and existing buildings and examines how detail relates to the design concept. This field is also central to the communication of design decisions to members of the construction team and vital to ensuring that work is carried out in the correct manner.  

Our course will help you evolve the knowledge and skills required in understanding, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation relative to design, technology, management, and practice. It will also help advance your architectural management proficiency by bringing together all aspects of the design process, from concept through to completion. 

In addition, this degree examines design strategies to promote and encourage sustainability. You will explore methods of sustainability to inform architectural design, and develop an awareness of ecological footprints, materials, and embodied energy along with processes of achieving sustainable design.

Interior Design challenges us to reimagine existing interiors as well as challenge the idea of ‘space’ to create innovative and experiential spaces. It focuses on the way people interact within these environments, considering comfort, usability, effectiveness, aesthetics and emotional connection.

On this course you’ll explore the regeneration and adaptation of real buildings and sites and learn how to turn old commercial premises into exciting new spaces for exhibition, retail, leisure, eating and socialising purposes. You’ll develop visual communication skills in drawing, 3D modelling, computing, video-modelscope, computer-aided design (CAD) and virtual reality. Your work will respond to future global challenges and reflect the importance of sustainability and inclusivity in contemporary interior design.

You’ll also learn about the importance of design cultures and heritage, and culture and context. This solid foundation will enable you to develop your own personal style and design identity and, as you grow in confidence, you’ll become increasingly autonomous as you pursue individual design projects.

The Air Transport Management MSc has been developed by two leading aviation academics in conjunction with industry partners, to offer a critical, comprehensive and practical understanding of the structure and operation of the international air transport industry. It has been designed to equip future leaders with a range of transferrable and analytical skills that can be directly applied in the workplace.

You will study airline operations, including licensing, scheduling, fleet planning, and aircraft acquisition. You will explore the management and operations of airports and the key challenges facing the sector, and gain insight into the business models and strategies that determine the future of the airline industry. You can also tailor the programme to reflect your particular interests or career aspirations through focusing on a particular area of air transport management in your dissertation.

The programme is suited to both recent graduates and those with existing professional experience who wish to expand their knowledge of the commercial air transport industry. Graduates may choose to pursue roles within airlines, airport operators, air cargo companies, air navigation service providers, national regulators, government agencies and aviation consultancy firms.

We will take the study of management and organisations from its historical roots to the present day, and, using real-life examples, we will teach you to critically analyse organisational development and the possible consequences on human resource management.  

The international aspect to the course allows you to explore the complexities of management within organisations that operate and trade across multiple countries, and gain an understanding of management in a global context. Learn how to look at company accounts from both the shareholder and the company perspectives, and discover the importance of organisational culture and identity. You will also evaluate the impact that external affairs can have on organisational strategy and behaviour.

Computational Intelligence (CI) encompasses the techniques and methods used to tackle problems that traditional approaches to computing struggle to solve. The four areas of fuzzy logic, neural networks, CI optimisation and knowledge-based systems encompass much of what is considered to be computational (or artificial) intelligence. There are also opportunities to apply what you learn in areas such as robot control and games development, depending on your interests.

You can choose from a number of specialist modules including natural language processing, artificial neural networks and data mining techniques, while developing your skills in our dedicated robotics laboratory, equipped with a variety of mobile robots. The applied computational intelligence module considers knowledge-based systems, as well as the historical, philosophical and future implications of AI, and focuses on current research and applications in the area.

The key business skills that you will gain - project management, marketing, website design, branding and business planning – make this course the ideal platform for creative entrepreneurs to launch their own design businesses and consultancies, or for those who hope to take up senior roles in design strategy or brand management. The course is designed for students with a good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications, such as Photoshop, Acrobat and InDesign, and will develop these technical skills to an advanced level.

You will select a specialist area of study from diverse options, ranging from retail, museum and exhibition, and product design, to interior, footwear, visual communication, and design innovation. Learn to devise creative solutions to complex issues surrounding sustainability and explore the role of design and innovation as a driver for change.

The opportunity to work on live projects will enhance your professional portfolio, and you will complete an individual major project (either creative practice based or research focused) which runs throughout the course, drawing on the professional expertise and specialist knowledge of our academics.
