The Fine Art MA is designed to prepare you for continuous artistic, professional and academic development. We will support you to develop research methods and personal goals tailored to your creative practice and professional ambitions. You’ll be introduced to emerging trends in contemporary practice including presentation, installation, curatorial and representational issues, and learn how to develop research methods to inform your creative decisions.

Teaching takes place in our creative studio environment with support from a highly skilled team of technicians, and you will have access to a range of workshops to experiment and innovate with materials and processes. Our exhibiting artists and research-active academics have interdisciplinary expertise in drawing, painting, sculpture, analogue and digital photography, digital media, printmaking, public art, installation and relational practice. You will build important professional practice skills throughout the course with opportunities to curate and exhibit your work. Develop a dialogue around your work by participating in discussion groups and seminars and be part of a dynamic cohort of Fine Art students, from BA to PhD.

Education Studies with Psychology examines how childhood is understood and shaped by society and how educationalists and psychologists theorise personal, social, emotional and intellectual development.

As the effects of climate change are increasingly felt, the drive towards more energy efficient buildings is intensifying. Sustainable buildings need not be technologically complex, but a high level of sophistication in design procedures and performance analysis is required.

Accredited by both the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and the Energy Institute, this programme will allow you to develop an understanding of building physics and acquire skills in building simulation, with an emphasis on sustainability. This course is the opportunity for you to graduate with a recognised qualification, satisfying the educational aspects of becoming a chartered engineer.

This course is designed for those who wish to understand the ways new and renewable energy can be harnessed in buildings, gain the ability to undertake the simulation and modelling tasks essential for credible building performance analysis, and work creatively within a multi-disciplinary design team, including building services engineers.

You will develop a broad insight into energy and sustainability issues, building physics and performance, energy analysis techniques and in-depth knowledge of computer modelling techniques for the design of modern sustainable buildings.

This course is designed for both recent graduates hoping to make their first move into engineering management and for established professional engineers who wish to work in a management role and need to extend their knowledge beyond their technical field into management and business.  

Linking business knowledge with engineering and sustainable development issues, this course emphasises key areas of modern management required by engineers and develops your skills in project management, information systems management and people management.  

You will choose from a range of optional modules, which offer opportunities for technical advancement in areas such as mechanical engineering, sustainability, and computer networks and e-commerce systems. Our technicians and academics will support you in your individual project – a substantial piece of work in your final semester that will link your technical specialism with core aspects of management.

The course will enable you to develop skills in the analysis of international financial markets and institutions, and provide you with a conceptual and theoretical grounding in current concepts and techniques in bank financial management, portfolio management, financial econometrics, business analytics and associated areas.

You will also be introduced to a range of empirical techniques enabling you to analyse sectoral dynamics, the impact of innovation on performance, and the impact of regulation and policy interventions on the financial services industry. The modules you will take consider international aspects of banking and finance and you will have the option to work on an Executive Company Project or traditional dissertation during the summer. There are also opportunities to get involved with a DMU Global international experience programme.

This course will challenge you to explore the diverse and novel application of textiles and push the boundaries of textile design and production. We aim to equip you with the creative skills to enter the industry with an innovative vision for the application of textile materials and the advanced technical expertise to design, construct and test garments in a specialist area.

We encourage applications from students from either design or technical backgrounds, and previous students on this course have created some of the most exciting, pioneering work by drawing on their wide-ranging areas of expertise. We have seen an engineering graduate using lasers to enhance the design process, a mechanical design engineer investigating the performance of lightweight synthetic motorcycle clothing and a contour design graduate developing clothing for amputees.

Sustainability is embedded into the curriculum. You will critically examine the ethical and environmental impact of design and explore a variety of materials and processes. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, this course covers a range of specialist areas and will prepare you for the changing demands within this dynamic sector. Specialise in lingerie, athleisure, swimwear, loungewear, nightwear, corsetry, menswear, sportswear or medical applications. You will develop specialist skills in conceptual design and application, pattern cutting, grading, fit methodologies, technical excellence and manufacturing. In your final year, you will choose to specialise in either an aesthetic or a technical route.
