Economics is key to understanding some of the critical questions facing our world. This course will explore these questions while also examining some of the principles and theories that can help us to answer them. The programme will also put data-driven analysis at the heart of its approach, as emphasised by Contemporary Economics.

In this course you will learn to evaluate a variety of advanced quantitative and econometric techniques, and be able to effectively solve economic problems using data application tools. This includes applying knowledge to a range of specialised areas within economics using econometric techniques.

This course covers the science and technology of audio and recording systems and how these can be used effectively in recording, mixing and mastering and sound design. You will develop skills in audio mixing and mastering, learn the principles of electronics and acoustics, study the measurement and design of recording and audio product environments, and produce sound for digital media, including radio, television, film, video games and online content.

Through core modules, you will learn about the fundamentals of audio engineering, discover the acoustical foundations of musical sounds and be introduced to studio techniques. English Language with Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is a stimulating, thought-provoking course designed to make you think about how language functions in the world today.

English Language with TESOL at DMU allows you to combine the study of English Language with the key theoretical and practical issues involved in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

The course is designed to enable you to develop your own ability to teach English to non-native speakers whilst enabling you to think about how language in general and English in particular functions in the world today. You will study linguistics, grammar, the evolution of the English language and a variety of writing styles, while also exploring the theory of how to teach English as a second language. You will acquire skills in the analysis of digital communication and the study of language through the application of digital tools and methodologies.

You will develop a set of linguistic and analytical skills, which will help you become a highly-skilled communicator and prepare you for a range of careers.

The Criminology with Psychology degree examines the causes, legal framework and responses to crime, combined with the study of psychology.

Students will cover a range of material to develop a holistic appreciation of criminal justice matters. For example, whilst students will explore a range of theoretical perspectives on causes of crime and philosophical justifications of punishment, they will also develop a solid understanding of how the criminal justice system works in practice. Our History programme is diverse, international in focus and innovative. Exploring primarily modern and contemporary history, this course will teach you the skills for effective research and analysis, helping to hone your ability to absorb, communicate and critically analyse complex information.

Reflecting the globalised world we live in, the curriculum covers a British, South Asian, European and African and North and South American history and explores topics such as colonialism, decolonisation, immigration, ethnic minorities, gender, photographic history and the history of sport and leisure.
