On this Philosophy and Contemporary Critical Theory MA course you'll study key works of critical theory in relation to the social and political problems of the present. It allows you to combine study of the two main traditions of critical theory, the Frankfurt School and French structuralism and anti-humanism, as well as engage with work by thinkers who have become influential only in the last two decades, e.g. Agamben, Spivak, Badiou, Butler and Deleuze.

While addressing contemporaries around questions like social justice, political power, class, identity, representation, and so on, this MA in critical theory grounds its problems and concepts in their specific philosophical context, with particular reference to the foundational work of Kant, Hegel and Marx.

This Modern European Philosophy MA course is recognised as one of the most challenging and stimulating philosophy masters programmes in the UK. Based on a focused study of the fundamental texts of the modern European philosophical tradition, it provides an ideal preparation for doctoral research in philosophy or related fields in the humanities and social sciences. It covers skills and methods in theatre making and performance, key approaches to interpreting performance and theatre design. You'll be taught through inspirational workshops, public performances and theatre-based lectures.

On this course, you'll explore important phases in theatre history as well as contemporary plays, devising companies, directors and other practitioners. The course culminates in a major Production Project module.

This course explores current trends in chemical, biological and biotechnological therapeutics and examines the latest technologies in the pharmaceutical industry. You will gain an understanding of processes used in clinical trials and in the development, manufacture and regulation of medicines. Through an independent research project, you will study an area of interest in depth. Examples of projects include: medicinal chemistry (eg. synthesis of anti-cancer compounds and natural products), pharmaceutical technology (eg. optimisation of tablet manufacture and formulation), and clinical pharmacy (eg. pharmacovigilance, clinical trial and medicines regulations).

The Philosophy MPhilStud course is a unique and intensive two-year programme – the only one of its kind in the UK.

It is dedicated to postgraduate study and research in the tradition of modern European (or 'continental') philosophy.  You will be able to study in more depth and with a more intense research focus than is possible in a one-year MA.
