To work as a biomedical scientist in the UK, you must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Our IBMS degree accreditation ensures our degree courses have a curriculum that will prepare you to meet the HCPC standards of proficiency for biomedical scientists. This accreditation means you’ll receive a wide-ranging, research-informed scientific education. In addition, you’ll develop practical skills and experience that employers value.

Speech and language therapists (SLT) are privileged to work with people throughout their entire lifespan, from neonatal to end of life care.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Gain a professional qualification as an SLT in three years
• Learn to provide assessment and intervention for communication impairments and difficulties with eating, drinking and swallowing
• Study a variety of subjects such as psychology, linguistics and speech pathology
• Attend guest lectures from specialist clinicians and medics to ensure your learning is current and to expand your networks
• Experience ongoing and block placements through a mixed placement model

We adopt a mixed placement model, which means that you'll have the opportunity to experience ongoing and block placements. An ongoing placement means that you are on placement one day per week, whilst in university the remaining days. On a block placement, you’ll spend all week on placement, with no lectures during these periods. You’ll be required to travel to placements independently and these will be located throughout the Yorkshire and Humberside region.

You'll undertake ongoing and block work placements in all three years of your course. You'll also be able to make the most of course-related opportunities such as campaigning and raising awareness of people with communication difficulties, getting involved in the speech and language therapy society and volunteering in the UK and abroad. You’ll gain a wide range of clinical experiences with both children and adults

Develop key skills in economics, accounting and management with a strong vocational focus.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Explore the principles of economics and how they apply to business
• Gain both a theoretical and practical understanding of the economic decisions faced by business managers
• Develop the ability to analyse the economic and social environments in which those decisions are taken

Through a combination of teaching and group work of placement experience in a variety of health and social care settings, this course will challenge your problem-solving and practical skills.

This course is accredited by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and is a World Federation of Occupational Therapists Approved Education Programme. Your curriculum will reflect the standards required by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will support people to manage a range of health and social challenges. These can include these can include enabling someone to go back to work following a period of depression, play sport following a head injury, or helping children with autism play games.

Develop the knowledge and expertise you will need for a managerial position in business.

You will gain an in-depth perspective of all areas of business including strategic analysis, ethical decision-making, people management, financial analytics, marketing and risk management. A focus on entrepreneurial skills will be embedded throughout your course and your assessments will reflect the demands of the workplace environment, for example researching and delivering a presentation.

Your tutors will deliver theory via lectures before you explore those ideas in smaller seminars. You will learn in a collaborative environment using case studies to enhance your learning and your tutors will guide your development by providing immediate personalised feedback. You will complete either a work placement or MBA Consultancy Project; either module will enable you to apply your theoretical knowledge to a real-life business issue, before collecting data and research to identify practical solutions.

Combining modules that explore architectural design, this course will help you gain an in-depth knowledge and skillset across design, arts, media and humanities.

• Work in conjunction with students from music production in the studios as well as working in live venues
• Have access to workshops and industry professionals through our links with JAMES (Joint Audio Media Education Support) and the Music Producers Guild

You’ll have the option to gain invaluable work experience through a placement year in industry and the opportunity to work with external clients in your final year. Throughout your course you’ll be encouraged to perform externally in the many venues that Leeds has to offer.
