As part of your course, you’ll:

• Study poems, plays and prose narratives in their historical and cultural contexts
• Discuss and debate the different ways texts can be interpreted

• Cover a diverse range of texts, from the literatures of Romanticism through to the contemporary, and British and American Literature of the twentieth century to the postcolonial literatures of the Caribbean, India, Pakistan, South Africa, and Australia

  Leeds is the Northern heart of culture and the arts. Your campus sits in the very centre of the city, surrounded by museums, art galleries, theatres, film production companies and recording studios. We work directly with Leeds museums and galleries and many regional events, including the Ilkley Literature Festival and the Leeds West Indian Carnival.

  Our location has enabled us to develop relationships with employers and cultural industries in the city and across the region. Past students have completed placements in the editorial team at Hallmark Studios and with Peepal Tree Press, an internationally-renowned publisher based in the city.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Focus on three main areas: programming and software engineering; art, concept and asset production; and game design studies, practice and theory
• Take products from an initial idea through the design, visualisation and technical implementation stages

We are also members of industry network, Game Republic, where past students have won awards from industry judges in the Student Showcase Competition.

Final year students also have the opportunity to showcase their work in front of leading employers at the end of year degree show. You can see some of their work in the Leeds School of Arts Festival. Previous years have seen many of our students gain job offers through the showcase opportunities.

Engage with innovative theory. This course has been designed to significantly expand both your practical expertise within the field of medical biochemistry and your transferable skills. Exposure to a range of techniques, including microscopy, spectroscopy and diagnostic assays, and their associated theories will significantly develop your understanding of medical biochemistry.

During your studies, you will prepare for, and undertake, an extensive independent project. You will discuss your project in detail with your supervisor before carrying out your research and writing up your study in a thesis. Additionally, you will study related subjects such as metabolism, physiology and the genetics of drug responses.

This course will develop your competencies in data analysis and statistics, science communication and professional development, enabling you to further your career as a confident medical biochemist or researcher.

This course has been designed in-line with the specific criteria required to go on to undertake the NHS Scientist Training Programme. As well as gaining an understanding of the practice and theory of advanced medical biochemistry, you will master other skills required to be a capable scientist. These include data analysis techniques such as using SPSS, and effective science communication, for example developing conference posters, delivering presentations, writing scientific papers and using social media to disseminate your research.

We will provide you with an advanced and challenging study of the main management disciplines of finance, marketing, supply chain and human resources. This course has been developed with local and national employers in the creative industries. You’ll benefit from the hands-on experience of staff who actively pursue research in this area, many of whom divide their time between academic work and commercial sector activities. You’ll have access to professional, industry-standard facilities. Our hardware and software systems are updated each year ensuring you use the same software as you will find in industry.

Throughout the course, you’ll practise presenting your work in front of a panel of tutors and industry professionals. Your final year project will be displayed at a tradeshow event where you can make contact with future employers. Previous students have found work with Disney Interactive Studios, Sky TV and many digital agencies.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Apply the fundamentals of design theory to game art and related visual media
• Develop practical 2D/3D visualisation and compositional skills
• Establish your practice in the form of a personal portfolio
• Understand the application of critical studies in relation to game art and what is required when working on the production of digital assets within game engine and visualisation technologies
• Undertake personal, detailed academic and practical research in relation to your specialised subject area
• Validate your creative process through your dissertation and portfolio of work
