Our sport and exercise science degree covers a broad spectrum of themes across sport and health. You’ll build an understanding of the key disciplines of biomechanics, physiology and psychology, and then develop specialist skills and knowledge according to your strengths and interests. The MArch is a lively student-centered environment, where peer-to-peer learning, practice-based research and live events projects connect students, expert academics, design professionals and wider communities. During the MArch, you will develop, expand and refine your design and theoretical skills whilst creating a portfolio that will enable you to find employment in a leading architecture practice.

The Joint Honours BA (Hons) English and Philosophy course route is distinctive because of its richly interdisciplinary approach to key ethical and intellectual challenges. BA (Hons) English and Philosophy is a popular Joint Honours combination which brings together two subjects with highly complementary approaches and interests.

As well as offering a balance of core and optional units rooted in each of the two subjects, this course has been designed so that your growing knowledge and skills in each subject will help you develop a distinctive perspective and distinctive strengths in the other. You may have opportunities to study abroad and, if you wish, can take your third year as a placement – in Britain or abroad. In your final year, you will have a chance to explore your interests in depth with a substantial piece of project work that presents a thesis, building on the knowledge and skills you've been developing over previous years.

This combined honours course will give you the practical language skills while also developing your understanding of the social and cultural environment in which it is spoken. You’ll also study units ranging from consultancy to enterprise, helping you find your calling in international business.

Spanish
In both the private and public sectors, there is demand for professionals with strong language skills who can work in culturally diverse environments. Studying Spanish at Manchester Met will give you the opportunity to learn from native speakers. Our languages department have created their own multi-cultural community, including British, exchange and international students, along with foreign language assistants, allowing you to be absorbed into the everyday use of your chosen language.

If you take Spanish as a major or equal subject you will be required to spend your third year abroad in Spain or Latin America. If Spanish is your minor subject, the course will be three years with no study abroad.

As computing continues to evolve at a remarkable pace, the expertise to harness the latest technology become more vital every day for organisations in every sector. Our MSc Computer Science course provides that expertise – helping you develop the specialist skills for a career in computing.

On this computer science masters, you’ll explore themes around object-oriented programming, advanced computer networks, cloud software development and information systems and databases. You will learn advanced concepts, techniques and technologies to equip you for the practical side of investigating an issue and creating a system or solution to match. The MChem (Hons) Chemistry is an integrated four-year undergraduate masters degree that covers study areas like reactions and mechanisms, materials chemistry, drug discovery, computational chemistry and spectroscopy, chemical synthesis and physiochemical processes.

We have created this course in partnership with airlines, attractions, hotels and other organisations, including the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), The Fat Duck Group and Expedia. We work with even more organisations from the visitor economy in order to give you first-hand experience of the industry throughout your studies.

You will have the opportunity to work on live client briefs and regularly hear from experts within the industry who will share their knowledge and expertise with you. Engaging with industry professionals will help to give you an insight into how different organisations operate, and how they respond and adjust to the opportunities and challenges they face.

Optional internship year

If you choose to take the optional one year internship, you’ll do so once you have successfully completed your taught units. The internship takes place over 36-48 weeks – you will be supported by our Placement Office, who have extensive contacts within the tourism and hospitality industries and over 25 years' experience of helping students to find placements.

The Placement Office advertise a variety of opportunities, support and advise on the application and recruitment process and continue to support you whilst you are away from the University.

BA Sociology offers exciting opportunities for you to study the cutting-edge discipline of sociology in the vibrant city of Manchester. It is aimed at students who want to understand and analyse contemporary social phenomena, trends and struggles, as well as think critically about solutions to pressing social issues.

The first year introduces you to the building blocks of sociology: key sociological concepts and theories, social divisions and problems, and major transformations – such as globalisation or digital culture – which are altering the fabric of contemporary society. You will receive training in a wide range of research methods during the first two years, to become equipped to undertake your own independent research project in your final year.

Our large, multi-disciplinary department believes in offering you extensive optionality to study specific areas of sociology in depth. Throughout the degree, there is an emphasis on developing skills and experiences that are relevant to professional careers, including work experience, study-abroad schemes, and independent project work. In your final year you also have the option of moving onto the BSc route, which means receiving extensive quantitative methods training and graduating with a BSc title. You may also have the opportunity to spend an extra year expanding your horizons studying with one of our partner universities overseas.

Our BA (Hons) Future Media Production offers the skills and understanding to work at the forefront of the creative and digital sectors. It’s a course that will equip you with the tools to design, create, manipulate and deliver engaging digital media content for a wide range of audiences.

Placement options

SODA Placement Year
As part of your studies with SODA, you will have the chance to take a year working on placement within the industry. During your year, you will spend at least 36 weeks working within an organisation in the industry, developing workplace skills, practical understanding and genuine industry experience.

Our course covers all core elements of psychological study, from lifespan development, neuropsychology, and research methods to social, critical and abnormal psychology.

Psychologists learn more about human behaviour using scientific methods such as experiments and statistical analysis. During your studies you might be conducting experiments, developing an independent research proposal or learning about qualitative methodologies.

We support our students to develop their natural curiosity, creating psychology graduates who are equipped to explore the human experience in an ethical, empathetic and scientific manner.

Some of the topics you’ll study include the influence of biology and genetics on behaviour, perception and memory, mental health and cultural differences, and the ethical issues around working with children.
