You will work in a team of professional engineers and scientists to apply your knowledge to an industrial problem defined by your host company. Your technical skills will be assessed through an industrial design project and you complete selected chemical engineering topics by distance learning.

On return to University in your fourth year, you study a selection of topics that are tailored to further develop the technical expertise you gain on your placement.

Our BSc Geography degree explores the natural environment and the key challenges we face in moving towards a more sustainable world.

You don’t need to decide between human and physical geography and can tailor your degree to your interests. Marine Technology with Naval Architecture BEng focuses on developing your knowledge of the design and operation of ships and other large floating structures. You'll use these skills to design the latest technologies for application. This accredited degree also provides a direct route to Chartered Engineer status.

You'll have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in advanced topics of naval architecture during your third year. You'll have the option to specialise in a field that interests you. This enables you to graduate in your chosen specialism tailored to your career of choice. Specialisms include:

Our three-year Physics with Astrophysics degree provides a strong understanding of the fundamental pillars of physics and a thorough grounding in advanced mathematics. You'll apply physics, mathematics and computation to understand the origin and evolution of the universe.

Security and Resilience
Graduates of our degrees in Security and Resilience will have particular knowledge and skills related to the development of dependable software systems.

This is an individually tailored research master's degree designed for graduates with a good background in linguistics and/or English language.

Our research master's in English Language and/or Linguistics is largely based around your own research interests. We'll prepare you for further research within and beyond academia. You'll be fully supported by experts situated in one of the largest centres for linguistics research in Europe.

The individually tailored course contains some taught modules. It mostly consists of smaller, independently conducted research assignments and a larger research dissertation at the end. The topics are chosen by you, in consultation with your supervisor.
