The Media and Journalism MA is designed for new graduates and experienced journalists. If you're planning a career in journalism and related occupations, or to progress to a PhD, this course is for you.

The course is flexible and you can tailor it towards professional media and journalism practice or academic engagement. You don't need a media background to join this course.

You'll also work with internationally renowned academics in media, culture, and journalism studies.

You can take part in projects to expand your knowledge and skills. This includes our Civic Journalism Lab collaboration with the BBC.

Biology and geography are an important part of this degree, to help you to understand the processes within ecosystems and how we can manage our natural resources effectively.

You will also study chemistry, physics and geology as applied to the study of the environment. Topics cover a wide range of subjects, from plant biology and ecology, to sustainability and environmental law.

Some of our degrees are offered at two levels:

Get a flying start and accelerate your progress towards being an ICAEW Chartered Accountant by putting classroom theory into commercial practice, with integrated paid work placements.

The ‘Flying Start’ degree is a collaboration between Newcastle University, PwC and ICAEW. It is the most established degree of its kind. It combines academic study and integrated paid professional work placements in PwC’s Audit practice. You'll progress towards the ICAEW Chartered Accountancy qualification, the ACA.

Our electrical and electronic engineering degrees focus on developing your knowledge and practical skills on topics across the discipline, so you graduate as a well-rounded civil engineer and well-equipped for your future career.

This foundation year will help you build the base knowledge you need to progress to any of our electrical and electronic engineering BEng degrees.

This is a full-time programme of study covering core electrical and electronic engineering topics, including:

We offer our degrees at two levels:

Our four-year degrees are more in-depth and include:

• Advanced topics and a wider choice of modules

Transfer between the two levels is possible up until the middle of Stage 3.

To qualify for Stages 3 and 4 of the MMath/MMathStat degree, you must normally have obtained at least an upper-second-class average mark in Stages 2 and 3.

Our mechanical engineering degrees focus on developing your knowledge and practical skills across a broad range of engineering topics, so you graduate equipped to succeed in any engineering field.

This foundation year will help you build the base knowledge you need to progress to any of our mechanical engineering MEng degrees.

This is a full-time programme of study covering core mechanical engineering topics, including:

• Foundation mathematics
• Applied mechanics
• Material science

If you don't have mathematics and/or science at the appropriate level to apply for our Engineering degrees, this course is for you. If you have proven ability in other subjects, it gives you the opportunity to develop the knowledge you need to apply to an engineering degree here.

This course is also appropriate if you have technical or vocational qualifications or are from a different educational system.

You will study topics such as:

On successful completion of your foundation year you are guaranteed entry to an engineering degree programme at Newcastle.
