Our Urban Planning master's provides a core introduction to planning issues, professional and theoretical debates and their application to live cases and places.

Urban Planning is the understanding of the place making processes that underpins places, society and the environment. It's also interdisciplinary, with professionals having an understanding across a range of topics. The Urban Planning master's is fully accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). The Development pathway is partially accredited by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and offers a RICS-accredited route to gain Chartered Surveyors status.

This Urban Planning degree focuses on the built environment and how it’s developed. You'll develop a thorough understanding of planning processes, design awareness and housing policy so you're equipped to pursue a career in town planning.

The course draws on Newcastle’s rich history, including the rise and decline of industry and its more recent cultural renaissance. You will undertake projects that address real-life planning situations and challenges, taking you out into the city and beyond. Study visits in Stage 2 also offer opportunities for international exploration and comparison.

You'll study topics such as design awareness, environmental sustainability and housing policy, and participate in a range of field trips and projects to see planning in action. You can specialise in subjects such as global poverty, the design of urban spaces, the effect of digital tools on democracy and how we plan for mega projects and the unknown.

This course provides an understanding of globalisation and development. It places special emphasis on the problem of poverty and its relation to global justice and global politics.

You study the political, social and economic causes, consequences and discourses of poverty and development. You also critically analyse these important global currents.

This four-year Master of Speech and Language Science MSpeech Honours degree focuses on developing your leadership and research skills. This will enable you to consider the role of the speech and language therapist, including as a future leader of the profession.

You will gain a thorough understanding of all areas necessary to undertake speech and language therapy practice, through case-based teaching – where you'll discuss real-life scenarios – and high levels of clinical work.

You will study core modules in speech and language pathology. These include causes, diagnosis, assessment and treatment of a range of speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders in adults and children.

Clinical experience during every year of the course will allow you to put this theory into practice, providing you with a scientifically orientated, and theoretical understanding, of Speech and Language Therapy. This ensures you graduate a confident, competent and highly skilled speech and language therapist.

All our degrees focus on three core areas – pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics – and you have the flexibility to tailor the combination of these to suit your interests.

On this degree, you will select mostly mathematics modules in the later stages. These include:
