Our cross-cultural communication master's covers how cultures and human behaviour reflexively interconnect.

We must improve our knowledge and understanding of the processes and issues involved in cross-cultural communication. We must discover how we can apply such knowledge in everyday experiences.

In practice, we need to develop our knowledge of why and how communication 'works' and how and why it sometimes does not 'work'.

The course answers questions including:

• How cultural background impacts upon successful communication
• How language, thought, and behaviour are interrelated

This research-based course offers a flexible route to advanced musical study including classical, popular, world, contemporary, early, folk and traditional.

This is a flexible research-based Master of Music.

Practitioners are able to study in areas such as:

• Improvisation

You can focus on any one of these or blend them according to their creative needs.

Musicologists are able to study in areas such as:

• Critical and cultural musicology
• Ethnomusicology and world music

It's also possible to combine practice-based and musicologically orientated projects.

The MMus can be regarded as a qualification in its own right, but also offers preparation for doctoral study, not least because of the strong research emphasis.

This degree gives you the opportunity to focus on physical geography from the very start. You'll develop a deep understanding of the processes that shape our planet and how they impact on human lives and communities. Alongside this, you'll develop advanced laboratory and GIS skills.

You'll learn from internationally recognised experts in a range of fields, in the UK and internationally. Valuable field visits will take you to explore our geographically rich region but also to places as far away as Morocco, Iceland and New Zealand.

Having already performed very well in A level Geography, you'll continue to build a firm foundation of knowledge and skills in Stage 1, enabling you to thrive in the final stages. The turning point of the degree is a residential field course module in Stage 2.

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) recognises it as a Research Master's award. This makes it ideal preparation for a PhD under the ESRC funded 1+3 (master's plus PhD) degree scheme linguistics strand or for students with NIHR Pre-doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship (PCAF) funding.

The course will cover:

• Research methods in the discipline. They will be appropriate to your planned dissertation project and future research
• Advanced scholarship and practice. This is in areas within that discipline as well as an awareness of current research
• Design and implementation of an original investigation. This includes statistical and/or qualitative analyses and interpretation of findings
• development of communication skills for sharing findings of clinical investigation with professional audiences. This is through a conference presentation and manuscript for submission to a scientific journal
