Developing practical skills to take with you into your career is a fundamental aspect of the course. We will enhance your research abilities throughout the course; particularly during the dissertation, you work on over the summer under the supervision of one of our experienced lecturers.

You can choose to conduct your dissertation on an economic area that interests you most, or that is most useful in your career. It’s a chance to apply your newly acquired knowledge to a specific problem or debate.

Our students have previously explored topics as wide-ranging as the effectiveness of tax credit policies to how financial transaction taxes can be used to regulate financial markets.

Learn the key business areas and understand how they operate in a global context. Spend 12 months abroad and gain practical international experience.

During the first year, you’ll study with BSc Management and BSc Management with Marketing students. You’ll benefit from learning in a diverse class with students who have different backgrounds and ambitions.

Year Abroad

• In Year 3 you will go abroad for up to 12 months. You'll have the flexibility to choose a work placement, International Academic Exchange or a combination of both. We run exchanges with business schools in Asia, Europe, Australia and North and South America.

Mathematics enables us to reason logically, to understand structure and to formulate scientific principles, whether from the physical, life or social sciences.

Choose this course to gain specialist knowledge in pure mathematics, applied mathematics and/or statistics.

Tailor to your interests

At the start of the course, you’ll gain a broad education in pure and applied mathematics, including programming and statistics. You’ll have the freedom to study a broader mathematical pathway or specialise in your favourite subject areas, enhancing your analytical thinking and appreciation of the beauty of mathematics.

All of our courses are flexible and allow for a wide choice of units after year one. You may be able to switch courses during the first year.

Year abroad

Our course is for engineers who want to apply fundamental mechanical engineering knowledge to the challenges of the automotive industry including areas such as cost, emissions, performance and materials.

Your first two years of study introduce you to the foundations of mechanical engineering. Using physical science, mathematics and computing, you'll learn how to assess engineering systems. You’ll study vehicle design, manufacturing processes and component analysis in the context of the automotive market. A range of specialist units in your final year allows you to choose where you want to advance your knowledge.

Studying an MEng degree gives you an in-depth study experience through advanced taught units and project work, and it fulfils the educational requirements you need to become a Chartered Engineer.

Placement Year

A placement can give you first-hand knowledge of working in a commercial or industrial environment and count towards becoming a Chartered Engineer. The professional skills you learn can benefit the rest of your degree and improve your career prospects. It can also be an opportunity to earn a salary during your degree and make industry contacts.

Our master’s furthers your automotive engineering knowledge and focuses on propulsion systems to prepare you for working in a dynamic and changing industry. You’ll develop systems-thinking approaches to understand the breadth of challenges faced in the sector such as moral, ethical and sustainability issues.

At the start of the course, you’ll be set a topical automotive theme that will feed into group projects, as well as your dissertation. This brings the content of subject-based units to life as well as reflecting professional practice in the industry. It also gives you the benefit of a personalized learning pathway.

You’ll explore automotive engineering applications and a range of technologies, considering their impact, analysing past failures and predicting future challenges and successes. If you’re interested in the drug discovery process and want to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry, this is the course for you.

You’ll gain a solid foundation in chemistry with a focus on how drugs and medicines are designed and made, how they work and why they’re successful. Major pharmaceutical companies have contributed to the design of the course so you can be sure your studies will be relevant for industry. You’ll push the boundaries of design and construction to generate new ideas for our infrastructure and cities. Mathematical sciences combines traditional mathematics with statistics and computing. This course is for you if you’d like to keep your options open and study a broader range of topics.

In the first year, you’ll explore an introduction to mathematics at university level before choosing areas in which you’d like to specialise later in the course. In year two, you’ll also have the option to study computing, physics and economics units run by other departments. All of our courses are flexible and allow for a wide choice of units after year one. If you find you want to specialise more, you may be able to switch courses during the first year.
