This course is for you if you’re keen to learn about current Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, specialising in this field from the start of your degree whilst still gaining a broad grounding in computer science. You'll gain the skills and knowledge to apply the latest AI technologies and methods to a wide range of problems, studying topics such as machine learning, algorithms and complexity, and visual computing.

Tailor to your interests

In the first year, you’ll learn the basics of computer science, including mathematics and programming skills, along with an introduction to the theory and practice of AI. In the second year, you’ll continue to develop your AI skills, with a focus on machine learning. In the final year, you’ll choose optional units alongside an individual project in a specific area of AI. Physics with Astrophysics at Bath will give you a strong grounding in physics, along with in-depth specialist knowledge of astrophysics. You’ll learn how to combine evidence from stellar and extragalactic astronomy to build consistent theoretical models of the evolution of galaxies.

Topics covered include exoplanets, galaxies, cosmology, stars and stellar evolution, general relativity and high energy astrophysics. There'll also be opportunities for you to carry out both observational and computational astrophysics projects alongside our astrophysics research group.

Our course is for creative engineers who want to explore product development, machines and systems. You’ll investigate the relationship between engineering and design to produce new products that are both marketable and functional. We want to inspire you to make the world better by designing and building the products of the future.

In your first two years, you’ll develop a detailed understanding of mechanical engineering. You’ll use mathematics and computing to analyse engineering systems and study design and manufacturing processes. Specialist units encourage you to take a hands-on approach to engineering design. You’ll work with other students in studios, labs and workshops to experiment with design and production. ‘Design-make-test’ activities give you practical experience of designing, building and testing prototypes.

Placement Year

In this course, you’ll study the foundations of economic theory and its applications to real-world problems. You’ll explore the connections between the economy as a whole, its main sectors (such as businesses, the financial sector, government, for example) and the decisions of individuals.

You’ll learn how to apply economic principles and methods to policy issues. You’ll develop your knowledge of institutions to understand how economic decisions and policies are made.

Your first year is concerned with key concepts in microeconomic and macroeconomic theory. You’ll further your skills in core mathematics, statistics and data analysis. In Year 2, you’ll build on this through intermediate study of economic theory. The study of econometrics will enable you to estimate and forecast economic relationships. Delve into the exciting field of health psychology on our BPS-accredited course, one of the only master's of this kind to include a compulsory 16-week placement.

Our MSc Health Psychology course is designed to give you a solid grounding in all the main areas of health psychology.

Taking a multidisciplinary approach to the subject, we look at how psychology can be used to help us better understand health and health behaviours. You'll study everything from preventing ill health to managing long-term conditions and developing effective healthcare provision.

You will gain hands-on experience of methods for conducting research in diverse research and healthcare settings before going on to apply those skills during the placement.

Placement Year

Choose Bath for one of the only BPS-accredited courses to offer a 16-week placement as an integral part of its master's. You'll be based in an academic, public health or health-related setting and will work on a piece of empirical research, using your knowledge of health psychology theories, models and approaches to tackle a particular issue in your placement setting.

As well as gaining invaluable experience, you'll see first-hand how health psychology can be applied in diverse contexts and ways. For example, you might be using research to inform policy around health promotion or disease prevention; or helping a service to use evidence-based models and approaches to develop more effective health interventions.
