Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and is the most common second language in the US. Studying a modern language in the context of its speakers' history, literature, experience and outlook can broaden horizons and challenge preconceptions, including those about one's own language and country.

In the Department of Film and Television, guided by leading scholars and practitioners, you will explore the history of film and television. You will consider theoretical perspectives, appreciate how films are made and engage in practical filmmaking activities.

You will study film alongside Spanish language, history and culture units, choosing from a wide range of options that allow you to pursue your own interests. Both departments offer a vibrant learning environment with research-led teaching.

The MA in Creative Writing at Bristol is designed for writers who would like to begin publishing their work. In warm, supportive workshops, you will be helped to improve your writing and in lectures and seminars you will increase your understanding of the industrial and critical contexts of contemporary literature. 

The MA in Creative Writing at Bristol is industry-focused. You will be taught by experienced published writers. A special unit will introduce you to issues in contemporary publishing. Guest writers and experts from industry will speak, bringing up-to-date knowledge and expertise to the course. We also work closely with local competitions, writing groups and writing initiatives. You will also work with a professional writer one-on-one as your manuscript develops with ten allocated hours of supervision. 

The MA in Creative Writing at Bristol is research-rich. Housed in the University's prestigious Department of English, you will be taught by groundbreaking researchers about contemporary critical issues in literature. You will be encouraged to read widely and books will be suggested for you by faculty. At the end of the course, you should be able to speak confidently and intelligently about your work and your reading. 

The MA in Creative Writing at Bristol is accessible. Twilight teaching allows people with working or caring responsibilities to study - as do the part-time options. A strong writing portfolio will allow access without a first degree in a related subject - or indeed without a first degree. Times of classes will be announced well in advance, so that students can accommodate study in their busy lives.

The theatre and performance studies course builds your understanding and practical skills by exploring critical and historical frameworks alongside practical workshops. There are opportunities to engage with professional theatre makers and our museum-accredited archive, the Theatre Collection.

In your first year you will learn how to analyse performance while developing practical skills in a range of performance practices, including theatre design, lighting, costume and production. In subsequent years you will choose from a range of options that will deepen your analytical, critical, practical and historical expertise.

Your degree culminates in an independent study project. This could be a group or individual performance, or a dissertation. You will also have an opportunity to undertake an industrial placement. We have strong links with the creative industries and placement partners have included the Bristol Old Vic, MAYK, In Between Time and Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory. Students can also undertake placements elsewhere, including overseas.

The dynamics of social and public policies are highly complex and often have unforeseen consequences. This course gives you the tools to explore, analyse and critically evaluate policy issues in and across societies in a range of geographical and cultural contexts. International Social and Public Policy draws on several disciplines, including economics, political science, sociology, behavioural science and philosophy, asking you to compare key ideas and theoretical frameworks.

This multidisciplinary, international degree integrates the analysis of government policy with the understanding of broader global political, economic and social change. At its core, the BSc International Social and Public Policy seeks to explore, analyse and critically assess contemporary social and public policy issues in and across societies.

In this four-year degree course you will learn about international business and spend a year abroad at one of our partner universities studying in the host language.

This degree is the same as the three-year BSc International Business Management course during the first two years. In the first year you will learn basic concepts and tools – both qualitative and quantitative – for the study of management, as well as exploring the global business environment.

During your second year you will have the chance to tailor your degree via optional units; popular second-year options in the past have included Management Science, Consumer Behaviour and Project Management. You will also learn about research design, data collection and analysis to prepare you for dissertation writing.

You will spend your third year abroad studying modules in business and management in your chosen language at one of our partner universities.

You will return to Bristol for your final year, when you will complete a dissertation – a piece of individual research in which you can focus on a topic of your choice. You will also take other core and optional units; popular final-year options in the past have included Strategy, Data Analytics and Human Resource Management.
