This course combines in-depth subject specialism in anthropology with interdisciplinary breadth, creative teamwork and entrepreneurial skills. Alongside your anthropology studies, you will apply your subject knowledge by translating ideas into plans for digital and creative enterprises, both social and commercial.

The course will teach you the fundamentals of anthropology in its broadest sense, studying humanity in all its diversity and covering the fundamental theories, methodologies and empirical bases of this interdisciplinary subject. You will recognise that human diversity holds multiple problems as well as creative solutions.

You will come together with students from other innovation disciplines, such as computer science and psychology, each contributing a unique perspective on a challenge as you identify needs and develop ideas. Ultimately, you'll create innovative solutions together.

By the time you graduate you will have a portfolio of work ranging from live client projects to planning your own entrepreneurial venture. The joint honours BA English and Russian allows you to study two complementary disciplines, both of which ask you to think carefully about culture and historical context and to pay close attention to detail while comprehending and analysing language.

Students on this course will join two departments with expert researchers in a great diversity of fields. You will be encouraged to develop expertise and research skills relevant to both disciplines while also considering the relationship between them.

You will explore a rich variety of texts in their social, political and historical contexts and will develop excellent critical and communication skills, both in English and in Russian. You will also have opportunities to study aspects of history, film and linguistics as part of your Russian programme.

Portuguese is the seventh most widely spoken language in the world and is an official language of nine countries across four continents. The political importance of countries like Brazil and Angola means Portuguese speakers are increasingly in demand.

This program provides a challenging range of advanced topics drawn from optical communications systems and devices, and optics-related signal processing, including associated enabling technologies. Optical fibre communications form the backbone of all land-based communications and are the only viable means to support today's global information systems. Research at Bristol is contributing to the ever-increasing requirement for bandwidth and flexibility through research into optical switching technology, wavelength conversion, high-speed modulation, data regeneration and novel semiconductor lasers.

As well as units on the fundamentals of electromagnetics, optical fibres and optical devices, there are two units related to optical networks: Optical Networks and Data Centre Networks. Optical Networks focuses on wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) networks, time division multiplexed (TDM) networks including SDH/SONET and OTN, optical frequency division multiplexed networks, and optical sub-wavelength switched networks. Data Centre Networks focuses on networks for cloud computing, cloud-based networking, grid computing and e-science.

This program builds on the internationally recognised research strengths of the Photonics & Quantum and High Performance Networks research groups within the Smart Internet Lab. The Photonics group is exploring the new field of quantum photonics, with key successes in developing photonic crystal fibre light sources, quantum secured optical communications and novel quantum gate technologies.

This MSc is accredited by the Institute of Engineering and Technology, one of only a handful of accredited program in the UK.

French is spoken by hundreds of millions of people around the world. Alongside studying history of art, you can take a broad range of French units in language, history, literature and culture, from medieval literature to French cinema. Specialists in French will encourage you to explore the relationship between literary and visual cultures.

You will study a combination of language, art history and culture units, spending your third year abroad in a French-speaking country on a study or work placement. While abroad, you will refine your skills in your chosen language as well as your cultural understanding.

The MA in History offers you the opportunity to explore a variety of approaches – intellectual, political, cultural, social and economic – across a broad chronological and geographical range. The programme provides a high degree of choice across the department's major areas of expertise, with particular strengths in:
