The LLM in Health, Law, and Society has been well received as a distinctive course that goes far beyond traditional courses on healthcare law. It offers an in-depth, intensive study of wide-ranging issues from health inequalities and regulation of the body to reproductive justice and mental health and wellbeing. It also explores the diverse roles social and political institutions and emerging technologies, such as healthtech, can play.

This professionally accredited course aims to equip you with the attributes needed to pursue a wide range of accounting, consulting and managerial career paths as a future organisational decision maker. You will develop your ability to interpret, assess and communicate financial and non-financial data.

Through study of the core units you will develop sound knowledge and understanding of accounting practices, financial management techniques, and the key and contemporary theories and practices of management and organisational behaviour.

Beyond the core units you will have opportunities to specialise, choosing from an evolving range of accounting and management units, for example Taxation, Auditing, Operations Management, and International Human Resource Management. The course will allow you to sharpen your ability to think critically and challenge received information. You can extend your degree to four years by applying to transfer to our four-year professional placement course or spend a year studying abroad in English during your third year.

Mathematics is the language of the sciences and is of core value in an advanced understanding of computer science. Computer science provides many of the key tools needed to solve the most important and pressing problems of the modern age.

The degree is ideal for someone looking to apply themselves in fields as varied as high finance, cryptography, quantum computing, algorithm design, machine learning and data science.

In your first year you will study essential core components of mathematics and computer science, giving you a rigorous foundation for future years. Subsequently, you will have the opportunity to tailor your mathematics and computer science options so that you graduate with a balance of theoretical and practical skills that reflect your interests.

This course is ideal for students interested in learning more about how to use numbers and data within criminology. It provides training in practical and analytical skills, which will enhance your career prospects and provide you with a strong platform for postgraduate study. No prior knowledge of statistical techniques is required.

About two thirds of your studies will follow the single honours Criminology course. By drawing on social harm perspectives criminology at Bristol examines conventionally defined crimes along with other problem activities or behaviours that may not be criminalised but still cause extensive harm to individuals and society. This provides you with a critical and informed understanding of crime and the criminal justice system, as well as wider social and economic questions.

The remaining third of your course will provide interdisciplinary training in quantitative methods. In year one of the quantitative pathway we discuss how numbers and data are used to tell convincing stories in the media and social research. We consider what is meant by segregation and how it can be mapped and measured.

Year two offers practical classes in social statistics and applied data analysis, which will develop your skills in numeracy and analysis and enable you to undertake your own individual research project in an area of quantitative social science in year three.

MSci Chemistry with Scientific Computing combines study of the structure and synthesis of matter with development of computational and data analysis skills. It creates a new kind of scientist – one with a firm foundation in chemistry, a sound appreciation of scientific computing and an understanding of what can be achieved by combining them.

The course offers a unique combination of units and projects, incorporating coding, machine learning and high-performance computing, as well as fundamental concepts in inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, and applications in analytical, environmental, materials and theoretical chemistry.

Our MSci course is suited to you if you want to gain a solid foundation for a career in coding, scientific computing, the chemical industry or research. You will learn to design experiments, interpret results and apply computing skills to problems in chemistry. Companies in the financial services sector are now able to intelligently harness data to provide tailored products and services; big technology corporations offer financial services to customers through their social media accounts; and disruptive technology start-ups have quickly scaled to challenge the dominance of traditional banks by developing new forms of finance from the ground up.

This new MSc offers an opportunity to join the financial technology revolution. Students will learn the key design features of a number of financial technology applications and will develop skills to implement, assess, and engineer these technologies. Students will also develop an understanding of the computational, statistical, and machine learning principles necessary for insightful large-scale data analysis used in data-driven finance.

Hosted by a world-leading engineering faculty, this is a technology-focused MSc and not a finance or accounting programme that is traditionally provided by a business school. Therefore, we expect applicants to have a strong background in computer science, engineering, or a numerate science; a background in economics or finance is not expected or required.
