This course, which has been established for more than 25 years, offers a cross-disciplinary approach to the study of environmental management, policy, the circular economy, sustainability and sustainable development in both developed and developing countries. It is suitable for applicants from all academic backgrounds and our wide range of subject options enables you to choose classes to suit your background.

You’ll learn about major environmental issues and the circular economy and gain an understanding of the methods in which environmental considerations and climate change are used in development and planning decisions. Combining education with other subjects provides opportunities for those who wish to work in professions associated with education, but who don't wish necessarily to become teachers. Please note that this course doesn't allow you to qualify as a teacher, though joint honours Education graduates will be able to explore postgraduate routes into teaching careers (via the PGDE).

Social Policy examines the ways in which societies distribute resources and develop services to meet individual and social needs. Key social policy issues examined include poverty; economic, race, age and gender inequality; social justice health; education; criminal justice and housing.

It utilises a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to improve our understanding of how societies organise their resources to meet individual and social needs and how they measure progress in these areas. 

This programme gives you the opportunity to learn more about the social and economic challenges facing Scottish society and place these in a broader international perspective. It draws on disciplines such as history, sociology, anthropology, economics, law, psychology, social anthropology and politics.

As a naval architecture student, you’ll learn to predict the stability and safety of ships, as well as their strength, speed, powering and propulsion requirements. You’ll discover how to calculate the motions of ships and other floating structures in rough seas, and how to estimate their reliability and safety in extreme conditions.

Ocean engineering deals with the technical aspects of fixed and floating marine structures and systems related to harnessing ocean resources. These include offshore oil and gas and the rapidly expanding area of ocean renewable energy, as well as other ocean resource activities such as subsea mining and aquaculture.

The degree aims to develop graduates capable of dealing with engineering challenges on a wide range of marine vehicles from tankers, bulk carriers, container ships and giant cruise liners to tidal current turbines and oil/gas platforms.

In addition to core Naval Architecture subjects, you'll study a range of specialised Ocean Engineering subjects and subjects related to the design of novel ship and offshore structures such as risk management and reliability analysis, station-keeping and control and subsea engineering.

Speech and language therapists assess and treat a wide variety of speech, language and communication problems. Our course, which provides a route into this profession, is the longest established in Scotland and one of the oldest in the UK.

There are a number of ways you can study law at Strathclyde, one such way being the BA degree in combination with another subject. Please that studying Law within the BA degree will not qualify you for entry to the legal profession. For professional qualifications in Law, students follow the LLB programme.

Immunology helps us understand how the immune system is tricked into attacking its own tissue, leading to diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes or allergy. It's significantly helped modern medicine in areas such as blood transfusion, vaccination, organ transplantation along with the treatment of allergy, and autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and cancer.

It's also made vital contributions to cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology and pharmacology, and is starting to make major inroads into the food industry, agriculture and veterinary science. 

Pharmacology is the study of how drugs and other chemicals affect the body in health and disease. It also explores the development of new and improved medicines and the treatment of disease.
