The MLitt in Interdisciplinary English Studies focuses on the representation, imaginary transformation and symbolisation of culture, as mediated through language and literature.

This is achieved by drawing on the interdisciplinary strengths of the School of Humanities, and the English Studies section within the school.

The course will prepare you to think about the ways in which all aspects of a culture depend on narrative, fiction and language. You'll be able to apply this to working in education, business, government or a third sector organisation.

The course also provides a preparation for undertaking a PhD, which generally requires a Masters qualification as an entry requirement.

This course is a five-year Integrated Masters degree with entry into either Year 1 with Highers or Year 2 with Advanced Highers or A-levels. 

Biochemistry is the study of how cells work at molecular level. Together with the related field of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry provides important advances into understanding the molecular basis of life, and how alteration or disruption of these molecular pathways leads to disease processes.

This Masters degree is for students who want to specialise in a single biomedical science. It’s particularly relevant if you want to pursue a research career.

In Years 1 to 4, you’ll follow the same curriculum as one of the joint Honours bioscience degrees. In Year 5, you’ll focus on developing research skills and knowledge. A significant part of this course is project-based.

This course is designed across three semesters, with each class intended to develop not just the skills aspiring writers need, but the right skills at the right stage in their development. The Convener of the MLitt in Creative Writing is the award-winning novelist, short story writer, editor and biographer Rodge Glass, author of Bring Me the Head of Ryan Giggs, Stories for the EasyJet Generation and Alasdair Gray: A Secretary’s Biography.

What do 3D TV, digital cameras, smartphones, the iPad and sports instant replay have in common? They're all examples of technology which have been developed combining skills from both Computer Science and Electronic Engineering. These subjects have become increasingly intertwined in recent years, so there is a need for engineers with the ability to create and embed intelligence into the products and systems of the future.

Engineers with operational and technical expertise in both electronics and software engineering are needed to design the next generation of computer apps, interactive vehicle robotic agents that monitor driver information and respond accordingly, or digital cinema technology. This degree is designed to produce these skilled professional engineers.

Biochemistry is the study of the composition, metabolism and function of biological systems at a molecular level. Biochemistry and the related field of molecular biology provide important advances in understanding the molecular basis of life and its role in the disease process.

Pharmacology is the study of how drugs and other chemicals affect the body in health and disease. This area explores the development of new and improved medicines and the treatment of disease.

The opportunity to choose specific degree combinations will allow you to go into specialist biomedical science areas such as neuroscience, cardiovascular research, immunopharmacology, industrial immunology, drug research, biochemistry, microbiology and bacteriology.
