Media & Communication draws on the expertise of Strathclyde’s internationally-renowned media and communications academic staff, including experts in strategic communication, media and communication theory, media ethics and mediated populism.

What you’ll study
You'll take four core classes covering the theory, history and practice in communication and media, a research skills class and two option classes in communications. You'll also write a 15,000-word dissertation. While on the course, there's opportunity to work with external clients.

This two-year course is offered jointly with Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), one of Germany's newest and most successful universities. Year 1 is completed at Strathclyde and Year 2 in Hamburg. The award is made in the name of both universities.

Before starting Year 2 in Hamburg, you’ll have the opportunity to complete an intensive German language course. This is offered as a four-week summer school in August or as a three-week course in October.

Journalism, Media & Communication
Today’s media industry expands beyond traditional print and broadcast journalism. It includes professional bloggers and vloggers, freelance writers and editors, podcasters, people working in entertainment TV, radio, or film, creators of video games and interactive apps, promoters of ideas and products, and many others.

The most successful professionals in today’s media are not only highly skilled in reporting, writing, editing and pitching their material, but they are also excellent communicators online and offline, and problem-solvers. Pursuing the BA in Journalism, Media and Communication will engage you in useful learning in a broad professional context, which includes a critical understanding of the media industry, while acquiring technical and professional skills in journalism, communication, information design and management, and using them in the dynamic media market of Glasgow and beyond. There are a number of ways you can study law at Strathclyde, one such way being the BA degree in combination with another subject. Please note that studying law within the BA degree will not qualify you for entry to the legal profession. For professional qualifications in law students follow the LLB programme.

This course demands a high level of design ability and self-motivation.
