There's a number of ways you can study Law at Strathclyde. You can study the BA degree or in combination with another subject. For professional qualifications in Law, students follow the LLB program.

Law involves the study of the obligations, duties and rights which every member of society has in relation to one another and to the State.

The study of Law is regarded not as purely vocational, but part of a broader education. Please note that studying Law within the BA degree will not qualify you for entry to the legal profession.

• As an English student at Strathclyde, you'll enjoy the best of old and new: a grounding in the classics as well as an insight into new fields of literature. Our BA degrees in Humanities & Social Sciences are broad-based to start with. In Year 1, you'll study three subjects, including your chosen subject(s). Students have the option to study abroad.

Understanding the development and functioning of environmental law across different levels of environmental governance is an important issue of our time. This requires moving beyond the traditional approach to teaching international, regional, EU and national environmental law in isolation from one other.

There's also a growing need to understand the relevance for environmental governance of the legal practices of indigenous peoples and local communities, business entities, local administrations, and transnational environmental practitioners.

Studying this course, you'll be equipped with a wide range of expertise in environmental law, in areas such as:

You'll focus on the global dynamics of environmental law. In particular, you'll look at the mutual influences and interactions among different regulatory levels.

The programme draws both on cutting-edge academic research on global environmental law and on first-hand professional experience in environmental law and governance at different levels.

This joint Honours degree covers the curriculum of the BSc Honours Mathematics degree, plus the education theory and classroom experience required for recognition by the General Teaching Council for Scotland.

In four years, you’ll gain a joint Honours degree along with a professional teaching qualification and will be qualified to enter the probationary year as a teacher of mathematics in Scottish secondary schools.

Students on the BSc (Honours) in Mathematics course for the first two years can transfer to the Mathematics with Teaching course guaranteed (subject to progress requirements) for the start of 3rd year.

History

• Studying history – the story of humanity through the ages – develops your knowledge of the past and gives you a better understanding of the present.
• Throughout your studies, you'll receive excellent training in areas such as problem-solving, communication, research methods, and interpretation.
• Our classes cover some of the most important and interesting historical periods at home and abroad, including Scotland’s ‘Highland Problem’ in the 16th century, Slavery in World History and Cold War Europe, 1945-1991.

Journalism, Media & Communication

• Today’s media industry expands beyond traditional print and broadcast journalism. It includes professional bloggers and vloggers, freelance writers and editors, podcasters, people working in entertainment TV, radio, or film, creators of video games and interactive apps, promoters of ideas and products, and many others.
• The most successful professionals in today’s media are not only highly skilled in reporting, writing, editing and pitching their material, but they are also excellent communicators online and offline, and problem-solvers. They are innovative and entrepreneurial, bold and curious, open-minded and collaborative. These are also some of Strathclyde’s core values, which guide our own teaching, research, and public engagement.
• Pursuing the BA in Journalism, Media and Communication will engage you in useful learning in a broad professional context, which includes a critical understanding of the media industry, while acquiring technical and professional skills in journalism, communication, information design and management, and using them in the dynamic media market of Glasgow and beyond. It will also allow you to take a second subject, which will enhance your expertise and university experience even further.

This course will equip you with a grounding in the analysis of international politics, in terms of the issues, actors and processes that shape the world today and also the theoretical frameworks and methodological techniques by which we make sense of them.

What role do powerful states, international organisations and social movements play in international and regional politics? How should we respond to global crises and conflicts? How does power operate in, across and between states? In what ways do international political and economic processes shape the everyday lives of people across the globe? And how can we explain and evaluate such processes?

This MSc in International Relations will help you answer these questions. It will equip you with a systematic grounding in the analysis of international politics, in terms both of the issues, actors and processes that shape the world today and the theoretical frameworks and methodological techniques by which we make sense of them.

The course is distinctive in combining American and British, positivist and critical, approaches to this field of study, as well as in its range of specialist classes on topics as diverse as international law, the EU, security and gender.

Our main focus in psychology is the study of human behaviour.

You'll look at conditions of behaviour – how we learn, remember, coordinate our actions and interact with others – and the reasons for differences between individuals, such as personality or intelligence.

Due to the popularity of the course and performance criteria for entry into Honours (Year 4) the numbers admitted to Years 2 and 3 of the course are limited.

Electronic & electrical engineers are the people who design, build, operate and maintain our global power systems, our telecommunications networks and computing infrastructure, and develop electronic systems essential to industry, health and entertainment.

Their aim is to find innovative and progressive solutions to today’s global challenges. That might be technologies to deliver clean energy, systems to improve audio and image quality on your phone, tablet and laptop, or techniques to improve digital imagery in medical devices to aid diagnosis.

Naval architects and marine engineers deal with the world’s largest moving structures and most powerful vehicles – from huge ships to sailing yachts, from fast ferries to offshore wind turbines and oil platforms.

Marine engineering is the engineering speciality of design, construction, installation and operation of machinery and propulsion systems for ships and marine structures.

This degree aims to develop engineers capable of dealing with engineering challenges on a wide range of marine vehicles, with additional skills and understanding in the impact and importance of marine engineering on their successful design, construction, repair, and maintenance.

In addition to core Naval Architecture subjects, you'll study a range of specialised marine engineering subjects, such as control theory and practice, electrical systems, design of marine engines (diesel, diesel-electric and gas turbine), propeller and shafting systems, system design and simulation, green technology and fuel cell technology.

Our MSc Advanced Computer Science with Data Science (January start) gives you the skill set needed in a range of industries. You'll gain an understanding of the new challenges posed by the data revolution, particularly in relation to its modelling, storage and access.

Mechanical engineers are recognised for their knowledge and skills in conceiving, designing, implementing and operating devices, machines, engines and energy systems.

You'll learn how to design aircraft engines, control systems, landing gear and about the many complex parts which sustain flight.

Many of the aero-related topics, such as aerodynamics and lightweight structures, are of special interest and value to a wide variety of engineering activities outside the field of aeronautics.
