Machine learning and deep neural network systems are currently used by leading organisations worldwide and research centres in a wide range of applications and products. Our MSc Machine Learning & Deep Learning degree focuses on state-of-the-art technologies for machine learning and deep neural network systems. The emphasis is on architectures, algorithms and implementation with applications in a diverse range of areas.

Delivered jointly by the Departments of Electronic & Electrical Engineering and Computer & Information Sciences, you'll be exposed to state-of-the-art engineering and software technologies that underpin machine learning and deep neural network systems.

You'll learn about and gain experience from hands-on, industry relevant projects and examples. This includes programming languages and engineering tools used in an increasing number of products and services worldwide.

This 18-month MSc course has been developed to provide high-calibre mechanical engineering graduates with an in-depth technical understanding of advanced mechanical topics. You’ll gain the specialist and generic skills necessary to contribute effectively in developing company capabilities, with practical experience provided by the industrial placement.

Industrial Placement

• You'll complete an industrial placement in the period from June to August, after you have completed the taught part of your degree, but before your final project. The Department will support you in making applications for industry internships. Please note that it's your responsibility to secure a work placement.
• You'll be fully supported by the University while on a placement. You'll be allocated a University of Strathclyde supervisor who'll act as your point of contact during your placement.

Social Policy examines the ways in which societies distribute resources and develop services to meet individual and social needs. Key social policy issues examined include poverty; economic, race, age and gender inequality; social justice health; education; criminal justice and housing.

It utilises a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to improve our understanding of how societies organise their resources to meet individual and social needs and how they measure progress in these areas. 

This programme gives you the opportunity to learn more about the social and economic challenges facing Scottish society and place these in a broader international perspective. It draws on disciplines such as history, sociology, anthropology, economics, law, psychology, social anthropology and politics.

With more than 500 million native speakers, Spanish is the second most commonly spoken language in the world. Speaking Spanish will help you conduct business more confidently in countries that are becoming increasingly important in world markets.

Chemical engineers play a vital role in finding solutions to 21st century challenges, such as providing people with clean water, medicines, food and fuel.Our graduates design and operate industrial processes that turn raw materials into valuable products, minimising their environmental impact.

The MSc Economics & Policy of Energy & Climate Change aims to produce future leaders in the sectors of energy and climate change.

The course addresses the complex and increasingly more extreme challenges and uncertainties that industries, economies, governments and societies face. By the end of the programme, you'll be well equipped to understand these, and have the knowledge to adapt to this changing context.

You'll learn about the rapid changes within the global energy system and about the way in which this is impacted by climate change and by the efforts to mitigate its impacts. These changes include escalating energy demand, constraints on supplies, impacts on energy mix, introduction of smart grids, fluctuating energy prices, regulatory pressures to reduce carbon emissions and to promote sustainability, increased integration of renewable energy sources, and changing demographics and patterns of energy use and supply.

The course offers excellent opportunities to network with energy and climate change specialists from a broad range of organisations. We've designed the course to maximise the opportunities for industry engagement. You'll also have the opportunity to take part in events organised by the Scottish Energy Forum.
