What can I do with a biomedical science degree?

• Our graduates work in increasingly diverse types of roles. Most go into biomedical science, working in research and development for organisations in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
• Some also get jobs in sales, the media or education, and others study for postgraduate qualifications.
• Through our partnership with American University of Antigua (AUA), you could go on to study medicine there. You'd spend two pre-clinical years in Antigua, followed by two clinical years in the UK, USA or Canada. Scholarships are available for outstanding students.

Our MSc Environmental Health course is designed specifically to enable health professionals to develop expertise in environmental health issues, and is aimed at graduates keen to acquire the professional skills associated with identifying, assessing, evaluating and controlling environmental factors that affect health. The majority of our students go straight into related employment. With many securing positions before graduation, with employers such as national food and health, safety and environment organisations and consultancies, national retailers and the leisure/holiday sector, as well as local councils, or overseas with a growing international focus on environmental health issues. You'll have the knowledge and experience in decision-making needed to identify and tackle environmental health issues in a wide range of contexts. On completing the course, you can continue your professional development by registering for the Chartered Practitioner Programme, delivered by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).  Ideal for students with Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC), the MSc provides Stage 1 training towards Practitioner Health Psychology status.
Interest in health psychology is growing rapidly among psychologists and other health service and occupational health professionals mostly thanks to the shifting emphasis in provision and governance of healthcare in the UK, and changes to the NHS' organisation and mission.

Excellent teaching and research

As a health psychologist, you'll provide valuable insights to a range of activities, and your skills will be highly sought-after in roles across the NHS, in private practice and in the charitable sector.

You may be providing psychological assessment and support in acute care situations, managing the psychological care and rehabilitation of people with chronic illnesses, or getting involved in health promotion activities including smoking cessation and dietary management.
