If you are thinking about going into research or industry, this course will give you the opportunity to explore both options and find out what is right for you. You will study at Warwick for your first two years, then apply your understanding through an industrial placement in your third year (acceptance of the placement is subject to academic performance).

Supported by our Student Opportunity (Careers) team, you will be fully involved in and responsible for finding a placement This ensures you are selecting a field that interests you, suits your strengths, and enhances your career prospects. Your industrial supervisor will run your placement, which they will design to be of maximum benefit to both you and the company. They will also ensure it encompasses a wide variety of experiences.

You will return to Warwick for your fourth year, completing a research project and studying optional modules that allow you to explore areas of particular interest.

Study abroad

The course contains a required period of work experience in your third year which may include study in a research context or industrial setting overseas.

Economics plays a part in every aspect of modern life, investigating the choices of consumers and corporations, groups and governments, networks and nations. It uses scientific methods to develop theoretical models of behaviour and markets, institutions and public policy. Germany is the leading economy in the EU, making the joint study of economics and German language and culture a powerful combination.

This joint degree enables you to acquire in-depth relevant linguistic and cultural studies while developing your ability as an analyst of international economic phenomena. You will spend half of your time in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and the other in the Department of Economics.

You will normally spend your second or third year abroad, consolidating and enhancing your learning.

Study abroad

We strongly recommend that you take a year abroad as part of your modern languages degree, if you are able to. If you are unable to take a year abroad you will move to a three-year. You will be required to complete further language reinforcement work. You will also be encouraged to spend time abroad in other ways, during vacation times.

You will usually spend your year abroad doing one of three things:

• Working as a language assistant teaching English in a primary or secondary school
• Studying full-time at a partner university in your chosen country
• On a work placement

You will study and learn within the Department of Economics and will also study bespoke modules taught by Warwick Business School, focused on the interaction between economics and its applications within business and industry. The degree focuses on research-led teaching and so we will expose you to research from the very start, encouraging you to consider and develop your own research questions.

In your first and third years you will be able to choose from many optional modules both within and outside of the Economics Department, helping you to pin down your own areas of academic interest.

In your final year, you will be able to follow your curiosity further by completing a Research in Applied Economics project on a topic of particular interest.

Study abroad

We currently offer an exciting range of opportunities for you to spend a year abroad. You can study in a higher education institution either in Europe, at the University of Monash in Australia, or with our partners in China and Canada. Studying overseas can add immeasurably to your personal development, future study and career opportunities.

It will also offer you an opportunity to experience an alternative university system. If you’re successful in gaining a Study Abroad placement, your degree programme will become a four year programme and, assuming you pass sufficient modules whilst abroad, the title of your course changes to add the suffix 'with Study Abroad' to the existing title (e.g. 'BSc Economics with Study Abroad').

Why are ‘private troubles’ also ‘public issues’? This course enables you to explore and answer questions just like this. The course will appeal if you are interested in how social life shapes individuals’ experiences of the world around us.

From across sociology and allied social sciences, you will gain a thorough understanding of theories and methodologies. Then you will have the opportunity to tailor your programme to your own specific interests through our wide range of options.

Your period of study will involve you examining individuals’ experiences, and encounters with structures and institutions; reading new empirical research; exploring social theories; and assessing innovative methodologies.

By studying linguistics together with Russian, you will explore the fascinating human capacity for language, while also building your fluency in Russian. As a linguist, you will learn about the structure and function of language, and about relationships between language and society.

You will also study and practice written and oral communication in Russian, and learn broadly about communicating across languages and cultures. Your skills in linguistic analysis will support your language learning, and your knowledge of Russian will complement your work as a linguist. This course opens many career opportunities that require the knowledge and skills of both a modern language and a deep understanding of language, culture and communication.

(75% linguistics, 25% Russian).

Study abroad

If you wish to spend a year abroad (which we thoroughly recommend), this will take place in your third year, meaning that you will complete your degree in four years instead of three. All students have the opportunity to apply for an intercalated year abroad at one of our partner universities. The Student Mobility Team offers support for these activities, and the Department's dedicated Study Abroad Co-ordinator can provide more specific information and assistance.

Germany has always been at the heart of European intellectual and cultural traditions, not least the birth of early cinema. This creates a natural synergy between these two subject areas.

German Studies at Warwick provides the opportunity to explore the extraordinary breadth and depth of the German language and culture in collaboration with recognised experts in the field.

Combining German with film means you will graduate as a highly qualified linguist with a deep understanding of key issues and developments in Germany’s past and present. You will gain advanced intercultural skills and excellent knowledge of visual aesthetics, cinematic culture, and narrative forms.

This programme draws on our long-established strengths in Continental Philosophy. It is distinctive in offering an unusually broad range of module options specifically in this area of philosophy. Modules cover 19th and 20th century Continental Philosophy, major figures and themes, as well as more specialised or less mainstream topics drawing on individual research strengths.

Because of the breadth of our expertise in this area, whichever module options you choose, you will be taught by world leaders in their respective fields.

On this course, you will explore the radical and revolutionary artistic power of theatre and entertainment, linking this to today’s global challenges. Philosophy of Mind and Philosophy of Psychology are key strengths of the Philosophy Department. It supports strong teaching and research links with the Psychology Department. As a philosophical psychologist you will learn to understand, critically analyze and construct complex theoretical positions, integrating conceptual arguments and empirical research. We offer an unusually broad range of modules in both Philosophy and Psychology as well as the freedom to choose your own path through the subjects.

Our first year is designed to help you develop the skills and confidence to succeed on your selected path, using a variety of methods of teaching and assessment in order to foster your development.

You may choose to apply for an intercalated year, spent either studying abroad or on a work placement. This extends the duration of your degree to four years, with your third year spent abroad or on placement, and will be reflected in your degree qualification (i.e. BA Philosophy with Psychology with Intercalated Year).

Our exciting MSc in Economics and International Financial Economics is designed to link economic theory and empirical economics with the practice of international finance.

The course will provide you with a thorough grounding in advanced core areas of microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, econometrics and research methods, plus the opportunity to specialise in international financial economics, engaging in contemporary theoretical and empirical debates.

You will be automatically enrolled on a pre-sessional Mathematics and Statistics programme to equip you with the relevant methodological skills you need to succeed. By the end of the course, you will be able to read and understand research papers and articles in academic journals, build theoretical models, and initiate empirical research and evaluate its findings.
