In the first year, you will cover the fundamentals of sound, audio electronics, programming, recording and production, critical listening along with the mathematics that underpins all these subjects.

In the second year, we want you to dig deep into wider applications of sound engineering in different domains, immersing yourself in the tools and techniques that add depth and variety to your engineer's toolbox. We also want to see your personal vision and persona develop, to the point where you are happy to take on work outside of the university.

By the third year, you will have a huge array of marketable skills under your belt and in this final year you will learn to apply them in a range of environments. You will also prepare a major project of your own choosing, which will present your talent to the world.  

When you finish our aim is that you are not only a highly talented sound engineer but, through the reading and thinking undertaken, you will be operating at an intellectual level worthy of a University of West London graduate.

During your studies, you will have access to one of the largest audio complexes in Europe, which includes more than 20 studios, as well as teaching rooms, labs and computer suites.

This is one of only eight sound engineering courses in the UK accredited by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) with Full Incorporated Engineering status (IEng).

On our Theatre and Performance Practice MA degree course, you will explore your practice both as an actor/creator and theatre practitioner. You will investigate and develop your skills and knowledge of theatre languages, including text, music, space, or physicality. You will observe creative processes, acting, and embodiment from varying viewpoints, including:

• Creation of original work using a variety of theatre languages
• Adaptation of existing material with dramatic potential

Whilst developing your theatre practice skills, you will also investigate the planning involved in studio practice, including the facilitation of workshops and leading rehearsals, and carry these through to curating and creating performance events.

The aim is for you to become an independent theatre practitioner that can build or expand a career in theatre through creating and producing your work, but also applying your skills to interrelated activities such as theatre research, curating events, or facilitating workshops.

The course begins with a focus on business structures and the activities around live promotion and the delivery of recorded music.

Alongside an understanding of copyright and entertainment law, you will have the opportunity to work with students across a wide range of courses in club promotions using our onsite venue spaces.

As you progress, you will examine specific sectors of the music business and put your knowledge into practice. You will have the chance to assist in tour promotion and management and work hands-on with the in-house record label, from A&R to marketing.

The final year sees a greater emphasis on building your industry networks and a chance to focus on an industry sector of your choice in the major project.

Industry knowledge is widened through engagement with a range of speakers and your live music understanding develops through the management of a multi-venue festival event, preparing you for careers in record labels, live events, marketing, festivals and artist management.
