On this MSc you can focus on formal research into the technologies behind postproduction systems. Alternatively you can focus on production-orientated work and apply for the MSc Film and Television Production with Visual Effects.

Many of our graduates work in the industry, from film to television companies, and some of our graduates have gone on to research in industry or academia.

Biochemistry sits at the boundary between the physical and life sciences. It concerns the molecular basis of health and disease, contributing to the discovery of new medicines, the growth of biotechnology, and the feeding of a growing population.

You will learn how knowledge of DNA sequences and appreciation of the structure and function of proteins are enabling us to better understand how living systems work, guiding the design of drugs to combat disease, and the engineering of biomolecules to enhance industrial processes.

You’ll work in the Departments of Biology and Chemistry and experience the excellent facilities for teaching and research. Both Departments provide you with the opportunity to learn in new, spacious and modern teaching laboratories which provide excellent facilities for practicals and small group project work, alongside state-of-the-art computing facilities.

You'll be able to function with confidence in the challenging world of communications engineering, as a designer, researcher or as a manager.

You'll work with world-class researchers who are advancing our understanding of electronics every day, and draw on the expertise of the Communications Research Group. You'll develop your practical, organisational, management and business skills with project work in every year of the course.

This course is for students from around the world who wish to pursue a career in teaching foreign languages. It will extend your knowledge of the processes that underpin and facilitate foreign language learning.

The course is designed for experienced language teachers. You should have at least 12 months' experience of full-time, classroom-based teaching (or equivalent).
The one-year programme is designed for students with at least one years teaching experience who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning of any second or foreign language/s. It is expected that students will already have an understanding of the main approaches to language teaching and language analysis. The course will provide rich opportunities for reflection on practice, and for the development of the understanding underlying principles and theories of language teaching and learning. There is also a broad range of option modules to choose from. Teaching and learning activities include presentations by the tutor, small group discussions and practical activities (individual and pair work). Summative assessments take the form of written assignments, exams, oral presentations and dissertations.

Through a combination of academic studies, practical training and research projects, you will learn the specialised skills required for the historical research, visual analysis and archaeological recording and interpretation of buildings. You'll gain a foundational knowledge of the history of architecture in the UK, from c.1000 to the present day. The course will allow you to explore current intellectual and professional research priorities in the archaeology of buildings and introduce you to conservation legislation, policy and practice. You'll leave with excellent research and communication skills relating to the research, analysis and interpretation of historic buildings.

The course brings together experts in buildings survey and recording, archive research, legislation and policy, conservation, theoretical interpretation and computer modelling to deliver a dynamic course, which will equip you with the specialist skills and knowledge required for a career in researching, managing, interpreting and conserving historic buildings. Specifically, you will gain valuable experience in archive research, photogrammetry and other 3D recording methods, CAD drawing, and computer modelling of historic buildings.

By combining English and History of Art, you’ll get to explore how textual and visual material interact with one another.

Studying the two subjects together asks how creativity responds to and works to shape the world. You’ll learn how to master art-historical and literary criticism, and discover the connections and differences between artistic media. In doing so, you’ll gain an exciting and fresh perspective on the history of human expression, graduating with skills highly prized by employers across a wide range of industries.

Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience explores how the mind changes as children grow up, examining the environmental and biological influences on the developing brain.

You'll be provided with perspectives from developmental cognitive neuroscience and developmental and cognitive psychology, and receive hands-on training in brain imaging methods.

You'll explore topical issues such as the neural bases of perceiving, acting in the physical and social world, the development of emotion regulation and pro-social behaviour, and neuroeducation.

Products and services are taking on more authority over activities that have the capability to pose a risk to human lives. System safety professionals address a web of interlinked contributing factors to assess the safety of these products or services.

This course will equip you to understand the contribution technology, humans and organisations make to product and service safety. You'll learn how to articulate how and why you believe these aspects have been addressed. You will also learn how to discuss the level of confidence it is possible to have in the mitigation and assurance processes undertaken throughout a product or services lifecycle.

Throughout the duration of the course you will increase your skills in systematic thinking about all these issues. You will be challenged to consider the ethical characteristics of the activities you undertake and decisions you make to ensure that you are able to act professionally and competently. You will have the opportunity to assess a range of scenarios addressing multiple aspects of systems, services, and associated processes, across multiple domains and the lifecycle. We will take you out of your experience base to challenge your existing knowledge, skills and behaviours.

The course employs the extensive research and industrial experience of the developers of the work packages you will address. It brings together safety professionals from many different domains (aerospace, military, automotive, railway, nuclear) to ensure your learning is as varied and as comprehensive as possible.

In studying linguistics you will be learning the science behind how we communicate. You’ll engage with the study of language on a conceptual level as well as the detailed level of raw linguistic data. You'll study syntax, semantics, phonetics, phonology and sociolinguistics, taught by world-leading academics whose expertise covers a range of areas of linguistics.

The combination of theory and practice will stimulate your critical thinking skills, foster your originality, and enable you to become a uniquely skilled analytical thinker and problem-solver. Your knowledge and understanding of how a language works, and how we communicate, will give you a solid foundation for many careers.  This flexible course gives you opportunities to customise your studies from the second year onwards.

Combine the study of French and Spanish with investigations into the nature of language itself. Spend a year abroad studying, working or teaching in Spanish and French-speaking countries, consolidating your language skills.

You'll be taught in French and Spanish, so you'll become confident using your languages as a means of communication, and for critical thinking. You'll gain an understanding of French and Spanish culture and societies which will underpin your abilities as a high-level communicator in both languages.

Your communication skills will be complemented by investigations into the science and structure of language through a range of linguistics modules. The course has flexibility in terms of how much French, Spanish and linguistics content you study over the four years. By the end of your studies, you will be equipped for a range of professional roles that call for expertise in language, linguistics and culture.
