For thousands of years, maths and philosophy have occupied the same ground.

From Pythagoras to Bertrand Russell, both disciplines developed their own cultural identities, but naturally remained unified. Our contemporary maths and philosophy degree applies that marriage of logic and reasoning to the meaning of life and society.

Philosophy is not a body of knowledge, but an activity: the activity of seeking a reflective understanding of ourselves and of the natural and social worlds we inhabit. Your maths and philosophy degree will reflect that body of knowledge and range of thinking.

Combine the study of Italian with investigations into the nature of language itself. You'll be taught in Italian from the start, so you'll become confident using Italian as a means of communication, and for critical thinking. In a rapidly changing globalised world, inequality, injustice and discrimination are rife. On this course, you'll engage with issues of social justice through a distinctive approach combining law, policy and the study of the social construction of crime. You'll work collaboratively to analyse real-world problems, as well as undertake individual legal research, all while drawing on the expertise of criminologists and world-leading legal researchers.

Aimed at those with a prior knowledge of economics and/or mathematics, the programme provides a thorough grounding in the theory of finance, as well as the mathematical techniques needed to model complex data.

Digital practices are becoming increasingly important in the heritage sector. This course draws together the Department of Archaeology's strengths in archaeological information sciences and cultural heritage to provide a combination of theoretical and applied study of heritage management with practical training in new technologies.

You will be working with a team of technology pioneers and computing scholars who lead the field in researching and developing interpretative content and digital applications for the heritage sector worldwide. You'll have the opportunity for practical placement experience within the heritage sector, develop essential IT knowledge and skills, have access to a full suite of research computing hardware and software and receive tailored careers advice from staff with significant experience of recruiting within the sector.

This course is ideal for graduates of Archaeology, History, Art History, Museum Studies, Education, Anthropology, Cultural Studies and related fields, and for candidates with proven IT experience.
