Nanotechnology is revolutionising electronic engineering.

Nanotechnology encompasses the design and study of devices on a scale of less than 100nm - barely a few hundred atoms across. From ultra-high-speed processors to super accurate sensors, nano-scale devices are transforming science and technology across a broad spectrum of fields, including microelectronics, data storage, medicine and the environment.

Drawing on the expertise of nanotechnology research groups at York, this course emphasises those areas of nanotechnology directly relevant to contemporary electronics. It forms part of a broad and strong core programme in electronics and provides ‘hands-on’ opportunities to build and characterise nanoscale devices.

You'll graduate with the knowledge required to operate with confidence - as a designer, researcher or manager - in the rapidly-expanding world of nanotechnology.

Our broad and principled approach to computer science will give you a thorough grounding in theory as well as practical skills, helping you to solve real-world problems.

You will study systems at different levels of abstraction, including digital hardware architectures, low level programming, operating systems, intelligent systems, compilers and high level languages. You’ll learn to design user-centred systems, recognise the power of data, and build intelligent systems that learn from data.

You will spend a year in industry, furthering your knowledge, networking and getting real-life experience.

On this MSc you will have the opportunity to focus your individual research project on the technologies behind production and postproduction systems. Alternatively, you can focus your individual research project on creative production-oriented work with the MA Film and Television Production with Sound.

Combine the study of French and Italian with investigations into the nature of language itself. Spend a year abroad studying, working or teaching in Italian and French-speaking countries, consolidating your language skills.

The MA in Global Literature and Culture is a wide-ranging exploration of the cultural manifestations of colonial conquest, national identities, anti-colonial resistance and post-colonial struggles.

You'll have the opportunity to study these interconnected experiences from the beginnings of European imperialism to the present day. You can construct a distinct, individually chosen programme of study from a wide range of options all of which involve questions of culture, history and politics.

Taught and supervised by world-leading scholars, the course will develop your research skills which you'll apply to a substantial piece of independent research. This will provide you with a foundation for doctoral research, as well as transferable skills for related careers in teaching, publishing, arts management and journalism. ?

Whether it’s the global implications of the Euro crisis, fluctuations in employment or even the price of milk in the supermarket, economics is the driving force.

Many of our lecturers are recognised for their ‘internationally excellent’ research into economics and its application to the real world. This research-led approach will give you a valuable insight into the ways in which financial decisions affect individuals, businesses and societies on a local and global level.

You’ll engage with the study of language on a conceptual level as well as the detailed level of raw linguistic data. Community music is a growing career option, as more and more musicians opt to work outside formal settings like the concert hall and many orchestras and arts organisations seek to extend their audience base into the community.

Community music covers work in schools, prisons or hospitals, the development of music in under-resourced areas and with disadvantaged people and the development of creative partnerships between people of different skills and cultures. The vast majority of music programmes focus on musicology and instrumental/vocal excellence - this course will challenge you to build on these skills and think critically about the practical applications of music beyond the concert hall.

You'll leave with the well-honed skills needed to facilitate access to music for a diverse range of people. The course also covers project management and arts administration, management and consultancy, and combines scholarship with professional and charitable outcomes, experience that will be invaluable in any career you may wish to pursue.
