Our course is delivered by four University departments with outstanding biomedical research activity: The Department of Biology, The Department of Health Sciences, The Department of Psychology, and the Hull York Medical School. The combined teaching across these departments ensures you have the latest understanding of the most important topics in human biology and disease, infection and immunity, epidemiology, and neuroscience.

Our course emphasises a high level of craft skill and creativity, combined with critical thought and collaboration. You'll gain scientific and technical training with hands-on experience of visual effects systems, programme creation and artistic decision-making.

We'll teach you through a mix of workshops, lectures, screenings and masterclasses with leading academics and industry professionals. On this MSc you can focus on formal research into the technologies behind postproduction systems. Alternatively you can focus on production-orientated work and apply for the MSc Film and Television Production with Visual Effects.

Many of our graduates work in the industry, from film to television companies, and some of our graduates have gone on to research in industry or academia.

Gain a critical understanding of the process of corporate globalisation through in-depth coverage of the main topics in corporate governance and commercial law.

Throughout this course you'll explore the differences in laws and governance in countries across the globe, and how they respond to economic and social pressures. You'll assess these approaches in times of economic stability and in crisis, with a particular focus on corporate governance and on commercial transactions.

By the end of this course, you'll have developed a comprehension of how commercial decisions are made taking into account their economic and social context. You'll understand the nature of the company, company law and how corporate governance operates, leaving you well-equipped to enter the world of commercial law.

As part of this innovative course, you'll study the electrical, electronic and mechanical aspects of healthcare in the context of a wider education in engineering.

You'll develop a specialist knowledge of medical engineering concepts and learn how to create technology that could have a huge impact on clinical systems, diagnosis and care.

Your communication skills and intercultural understanding will be complemented by studying linguistics. In studying linguistics you will learn the science behind how we communicate. You’ll engage with the study of language on a conceptual level as well as the detailed level of linguistic data. The course has flexibility in terms of how much Spanish and linguistics content you study. Your knowledge and understanding of how a language works, and how it is used, will give you a solid foundation for many careers.

Human rights defenders strive for a world in which human rights are respected, protected and fulfilled.

Learn to bridge the gap between theory and practice by combining hands-on experience with interdisciplinary academic enquiry. Discover the theoretical frameworks and practical skills which make advances in human rights possible.

Study different aspects of human rights practice: the strategies employed and the debates, institutions and political structures that human rights defenders seek to influence. You'll learn directly from human rights defenders with first-hand experience in governmental, judicial, and grassroots roles.

You'll also develop a range of fieldwork, advocacy and legal skills and apply these on a placement in the UK or South Africa.

Psychologists use observation and experimental evidence to understand the relationship between our sensations and actions but also the intervening processes that underlie our behaviour. Social psychology studies interactions, group behaviour and culture. Cognitive neuroscience examines the mechanisms of the individual brain, right down to its cells and the connections between them.

Physics is the study of the fundamental forces of the Universe, understanding the nature of waves and particles, and the structure of matter.

You will develop advanced techniques for researching fundamental physics, scientific principles and methods. You'll investigate subjects like nanosystems, semiconductors, fusion plasmas, biophysics, and quantum computing.

You'll learn to analyse real-life problems, write scientific reports, communicate complex concepts, and design and perform experiments.

On this MA you can choose from a wide range of option modules. You'll also be able to create a substantial piece of research following your own interests, with our support. The skills that you develop on the course will also equip you for a range of careers.

You’ll join our postgraduate community across both the Department of Philosophy and York Law School, and will be invited to participate in our broad and diverse research culture.

Combine the study of French and Italian with investigations into the nature of language itself. Spend a year abroad studying, working or teaching in Italian and French-speaking countries, consolidating your language skills.

You'll be taught in French and Italian, so you'll become confident using your languages as a means of communication, and for critical thinking. You'll gain an understanding of French and Italian culture and societies which will underpin your abilities as a high-level communicator in both languages.

Your communication skills will be complemented by investigations into the science and structure of language through a range of linguistics modules. The course has flexibility in terms of how much French, Italian and linguistics content you study over the four years. By the end of your studies, you will be equipped for a range of professional roles that call for expertise in language, linguistics and culture.
