With continuing advances in technology, high user expectations and increasing statutory requirements, there is a high-demand for skilled engineers in electronic computing.

Unlike pure computing degrees which often concentrate on the software, scientific and mathematical aspects of computing, this course will provide you with a wider range of engineering skills, including in hardware and applications of computing to electronic systems. The course draws from the expertise of the Intelligent Systems and Nano-science Research Group at York.

You'll graduate with the abilities and approaches you will need to operate with confidence – as a designer, researcher or as a manager - in the challenging and rapidly changing world of computer engineering.

From Pythagoras to Bertrand Russell, both disciplines developed their own cultural identities, but naturally remained unified. Our contemporary maths and philosophy degree applies that marriage of logic and reasoning to the meaning of life and society.

Philosophy is not a body of knowledge, but an activity: the activity of seeking a reflective understanding of ourselves and of the natural and social worlds we inhabit. Your maths and philosophy degree will reflect that body of knowledge and range of thinking.

Combine the study of Italian with investigations into the nature of language itself. You'll be taught in Italian from the start, so you'll become confident using Italian as a means of communication, and for critical thinking. Historical Archaeology explores the material remains of the last 2,000 years - the period for which texts and document sources exist.

Understanding and analysing these sources enables us to understand human lives, from the spread of the Roman Empire to everyday life for the Vikings.

Chemistry is often referred to as the 'central science'. It covers topics as diverse as quantum mechanics and the study of atomic particles, to the molecular nature of biological systems and the Human Genome Project.

This degree will give you a strong grounding in fundamental chemistry. You'll also develop specialist knowledge of chemistry for biology and medicine, from the use of powerful microscopes to investigate the causes of genetic disease, to exploring new treatments for cancer.
