The Africana Studies major is designed to provide students with a rich intellectual experience through the critical and systematic study of the life, thought and practice of African peoples, Continental and Diasporan, in their current and historical dimensions. Africana Studies seeks to critically examine and understand the Africana initiative and experience from an Afrocentric or African-centered perspective, i.e., from a position internal to the culture of the people studied, while retaining a respect for and openness to the multicultural character and instructive value of the total human experience.

The Chemical Engineering bachelor degree program's educational objective statement is directed towards the career accomplishments and expectations of the alumni. The objectives of the program are that recent alumni become successful in their professional careers, and that they continue on a path of professional development.

The Environmental Science and Policy (ES&P) degrees program is jointly housed in the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, reflecting its inherent interdisciplinary nature. A Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science as well as a minor are available.

We highly encourage B.A. students to seek a minor in a closely related discipline such as anthropology, economics, geography, international studies or political science.

The STEM-designated Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) is for students and professional who want to develop and advance their knowledge in information technology and its application in different business domains.

Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) is designed to provide students with an advanced and highly sought-after expertise necessary in the field of information systems. The program provides training in advanced technical, managerial, and analytical techniques with a focus on digital transformation, data analytics, and cyber security, which will advance student career prospects and prepare them for lifelong learning in a global economy. Students can choose one of two tracks (accelerated/fulltime or professional/part-time) to accommodate their work schedule and their career goals.

The Fast Track Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program is available to promising students seeking a career in Information Systems. CSULB undergraduate information systems students may apply to the Fast Track MSIS program as undergraduates. Students are eligible for the Fast Track MSIS if they maintain a 3.0 Overall and Upper Division Major GPA. Students deemed eligible for the Fast Track MSIS program may waive the GMAT/GRE test and additional application requirement. Please inquire with the Graduate Business Office for more information.

The BA in Dance, Option in Dance Science, offers a course of study combining dance with specific kinesiology and science courses for students interested in teaching careers in dance, dance medicine, careers in dance fitness, or graduate education in the areas of dance science or related dance studies. Students interested in the BA in Dance, Option in Dance Science should meet with Program Coordinator Brooke Winder no later than the start of their 2nd year (earlier for transfer students). Additionally, students must pass BIOL 207 , BIOL 208 , and DANC 260 with a minimum GPA of 2.25 to satisfy the major specific declaration requirements. The Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) option provides the subject matter preparation required to earn a credential for teaching physical education in California public schools.

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree program in Kinesiology includes two concentrations of K-12 Physical Education Teacher Education and Adapted Physical Education (APE) teacher education. Each of these options is accredited by the California Commission for Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).

This program is designed to accommodate the needs of new college students, continuing students, transferring students, and experienced criminal justice practitioners.

Students intending to transfer from community colleges to this University are advised to complete general education requirements while attending the community college. Courses equivalent to CRJU 101 and two of the following three lower-division cognate courses (SOC 100, PSY 100, and POSC 100) should be taken while attending community college. Other criminology and criminal justice courses taken at community colleges will be accepted as lower-division electives provided the college where they were taken designated them as transferable to CSU. These courses cannot be substituted for upper-division criminology and criminal justice courses.

The programs in chemistry and biochemistry at the bachelor’s degree level are planned to develop background in a specific science, to serve as preparation for graduate work in chemistry or biochemistry, and to provide a foundation for those students seeking careers in the chemical sciences, teaching, law, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and other health‑related professions, and in industrial and governmental scientific occupations.

History is a discipline at the core of the liberal arts tradition. It seeks to preserve, extend, and reevaluate our study of the past, and to connect it with the present. Students who specialize in History are typically those who plan to teach, practice law, or enter government service; but History students also go into business, librarianship, foundation work, management of local history projects, and fundraising. Some history alumni have become successful writers.
