Management faculty introduce you to best practices of leadership, business-government relations, sustainability, critical decision-making, organizational behavior and strategic project management and more while guiding you in how to apply such skills in today's economy. Entegrated Marketing Communication (IMC) is a strategic communication discipline that draws together advertising, public relations, and marketing. Students can develop competencies in advertising, public relations, event planning, emerging communication technologies, community relations, visual communication, and branding. Integrated Marketing Communication majors pursue careers in advertising and public relations agencies, consulting firms, and positions requiring strategic communication planning and strategy.

The Finance major is comprised of courses in two broad areas:  Corporate Finance and Investments. 

In Corporate Finance, students learn to analyze business opportunities to identify those that create value.  Financial analysis boils down to sophisticated cost-benefit analysis for decision making in all aspects of business, and students majoring in Finance successfully pursue careers with major corporate and other organizations.

In Investments, students learn to structure portfolios of stocks, bonds and other financial assets that meet the objectives of institutional and individual investors.  The curriculum helps prepare students who wish to sit for Level I of the CFA exam series, and many graduates in Finance successfully pursue careers in asset management and wealth advising.

Course work in these areas provides students with a thorough grounding in the fundamental skills and practices of public relations and advertising along with a theoretical understanding of their cultural importance as the primary means of persuasion in modern life. Students explore the differences, similarities and integration of public relations and advertising, a critical evaluation of industry content, and hands-on production skills. As students move through the program, they can gain professional experience with on-campus and metro-area media and agencies.

Working with a departmental mentor, students may emphasize either public relations or advertising or choose an integrated approach to both.

Throughout the program, students will be able to:

• Create a wide variety of advertisements for magazines, newspapers and TV.
• Manage advertising and public relations campaigns.
• Create campaigns for nonprofit institutions.
• Plan events.
• Understand and apply international advertising and public relations media needs.
• Account for cultural differences and how they impact advertising or public relations.

The discipline helps you understand what motivates people and how often-conflicting values affect behavior in the marketplace. From individuals to groups, from corporations to governments, people behave differently, and a well-trained student of economics accurately can analyze those differences and their effects.

The curriculum is steeped in data analytics. Economics majors take a number of upper-level courses in data analytics including two courses in Econometrics that require students to complete several rigorous research projects.

Our economics graduates are sought after by graduate schools because of their intensive quantitative training and research experience. Employers seek out the students because of the depth of their critical thinking and the strength of their core content knowledge.

Students and graduates will be able to apply techniques of computer science to analyse, synthesize and evaluate solutions to practical, real-world problems. Students and graduates will demonstrate expertise in up-to-date practices concerning systems, networks, tools, algorithms, and advanced topics. Graduates will become self-sufficient learners of computer science. Students and graduates will exhibit knowledge of the ethics of computing and will act in an ethical and moral manner in their studies and their work.

The Duquesne University Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) Program was the first five-year, entry-level Master's degree program in the nation.

Our graduates become health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. They provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, in primary and specialty care in medical and surgical practice settings.

Program Structure

"Entry level" students come into Duquesne University as freshmen, complete the five year curriculum, and earn both a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree and a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree.

• The rigorous 3-year pre-professional curriculum is comprised of core curriculum requirements and pre-requisites for the accredited phase.
• Pre-requisite courses provide the strong science background necessary for academic success as an accredited phase student.

The Computer Systems Technology (CST) Program is an innovative online degree program that offers working professionals, military personnel, and other motivated students an opportunity to complete their Baccalaureate coursework in the field of computing technology. The Bachelor of Science in CST curriculum offers a blend of computer systems and information technology that creates a well-rounded professional who knows how to think analytically, assess and diagnose organizational problems, and select the best solution.
