The interdisciplinary Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) major is a unique program which prepares students for leadership in many areas of public service and private enterprise.

About the Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) Major

PPE is a rigorous, interdisciplinary program that combines studies in political science, philosophy, and economics.  Modeled after a program at Oxford University, PPE core classes study human values, cultural institutions, and economics in order to develop multiperspectival solutions to pressing social problems. PPE students will also choose an area of emphasis from the following tracks: Applied Economics, Financial Economics, International Affairs, Law, Philosophy, Public Administration, and Social Enterprise.

Studying the International Affairs track will educate you on the political and economic development of nations, international law and organizations, and american foreign relations.

Mechanical engineers apply hands-on physics to model, analyse, and design mechanical and energy systems such as automobiles, aircraft, ships, heating and cooling systems, prosthetics, robots, household appliances, or industrial equipment and machinery.

What’s different? You'll get individual attention from your professors in rigorous, small classes. This degree can be completed in four years at SPU. You'll learn to think critically and solve quandaries through multiple, extended hands-on projects.

Accredited? We are pursuing accreditation through the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission for the Mechanical Engineering major like we have already achieved for our other engineering majors.

This major leads to a bachelor of science degree.

The degree requirements are identical to the General Engineering/Mechanical Engineering concentration.

Who designs the bridge between hardware and software? Computer engineers! Graduates of this program go on to analyze and design computers, peripheral devices, or embedded systems such as those found in today’s smart appliances and transportation.

Armed with a solid foundation in math, physics, computer science, and electronics, in this program you’ll choose from a wide range of specialized electives, from software engineering and networks, to systems design or even alternative energy.

The Business Administration major at SPU provides a well-rounded foundation for business. It is a broad-based program in the fundamental theories, principles, and practices of modern business. This program has attained AACSB accreditation, which is the highest level of international certification for business schools.

Deeply grounded in Christian faith and values, we believe that the purpose of business is to serve and to advance human flourishing. The Business Administration major teaches standards of professional and ethical behaviors, and develops the leadership attributes necessary for success.

As part of the Business Administration major, students also gain vital industry experience by participating in our SBGE internship program. Our students have held internships at leading local businesses and companies such as Starbucks, Boeing, Microsoft, the Seattle Mariners, and Merrill Lynch.

A Finance concentration teaches you how to develop budgets for capital projects or work in the financial markets.

When you receive a bachelor of science in Ecology at SPU, you will be ready to work in ecology or biological subdisciplines such as marine biology, forestry, fisheries, agriculture, behavioral ecology, and wildlife management. This major prepares you for graduate studies or a professional ecology/biology career.

About the Ecology Major

As an Ecology major, you will focus on principles that enhance environmental quality and make efficient use of nonrenewable resources. You will also learn to apply this knowledge to help address agricultural and environmental challenges.

The Integrated Studies major enables you to develop a breadth of knowledge across six content areas you will teach in elementary school: the arts, health and fitness, language arts, mathematics, natural sciences, and social sciences. These are the six content disciplines of Washington state’s Endorsement Competencies for Elementary Education K–8.

If you want to be certified with an endorsement in Elementary Education, you will complete the requirements for (1) a bachelor’s degree in Integrated Studies and (2) the Residency Teacher Certification Program in the School of Education. You can complete all of these requirements in four years. Admission to the Major

Chemistry forms a foundation for the study of a wide variety of scientific disciplines. It is concerned primarily with matter, energy, and their interactions. Chemists are both creators and problem-solvers who do everything from create new substances to analyze criminal evidence. They are at the forefront of efforts to make sure that technology serves people, rather than the reverse. And at Seattle Pacific University, chemists and chemistry are informed and influenced by a Christian worldview.

Choosing the Public Administration track will set you up for success in urban politics, public administration, and public policy.

A Bachelor of Art in Art will provide students with an opportunity to express themselves using a variety of creative disciplines and methods within the visual arts and prepare them for such fields as museum studies, gallery management, curator, teaching, studio artist, graphic design, product design, art therapy, graduated studies in a variety of related fields, fashion, and marketing.

Interested in changing the world? Informed by Christian faith and a concern for justice, the Political Science major in SPU's School of Business, Government, and Economics will equip you to become the kind of citizen and leader who positively influences politics and public policy.

Political Science Major

As a Political Science major, you’ll wrestle with some of the most fundamental questions underlying faith and the political order. What is the relationship between Christian principles and public policy? How can Christians model both the character and truth of Jesus Christ in the public square? How should we all live in local, national, and global community?

As you explore these questions, you’ll receive broad training in political philosophy, government, law, public policy, geopolitics, international relations, and the political behavior of individuals and groups. You’ll also receive peer support and have a chance to participate in SPU's Political Union, a nonpartisan student group.

The International Affairs track is designed for anyone interested in global politics and policy, or a career in the U.S. State Department.
