The BA in in Human Development and Family Studies offers an interdisciplinary approach to individual and family development across the lifespan, providing opportunities for you to study how people develop physically, cognitively, emotionally and socially within the context of the family and society.

It is a versatile undergraduate degree for anyone who is intrigued by human nature and the forces that help shape it. As a graduate, you will be prepared to work with people in a variety of roles, including social and family services, teaching and education, advocacy and non-profit work, and business and health related careers.

The Accounting major in SPU's School of Business, Government, and Economics is designed to prepare you for a wide range of professional challenges and equip you with the necessary tools to succeed in a variety of key positions throughout the business world.

ACCOUNTING MAJOR
As an Accounting student at Seattle Pacific University, you will begin to master specialized areas such as financial, managerial, and international accounting. 

You will learn about taxation, auditing, budgets, profit-and-loss statements, and information systems alongside many other topics. Our program offers an added dimension of integrity and ethics grounded in Christian faith and values, setting our graduates apart. 

Economics is the allocation of resources among competing uses. You will study many vital issues that affect human flourishing in the Economics major at SPU, while emphasizing on a Christian perspective on society’s decisions about how to organize the production and distribution of goods and services. The Economics major at SPU emphasizes critical thinking, original research, and the stewardship of scarce resources to enhance human flourishing.

The Business Analysis concentration will equip you with additional skills and understanding related to marketing, management, and international business.

When you major in Exercise Science at SPU, you build a strong foundation to serve in a variety of fields in which you can promote healthy lifestyles for people of all ages. Whether you plan to become a strength and conditioning trainer, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, or any other type of health care or fitness professional, an Exercise Science degree from Seattle Pacific gives you the skills and knowledge base you need.

 As an SPU Exercise Science major, you examine the health and fitness benefits of physical activity and exercise using a science-based approach. This approach combines:

• Classroom learning, including chemistry
• Laboratory work
• An internship in a Seattle-area professional setting

Whether you plan to enter the workforce after graduation or attend graduate school for an advanced degree or certification, an Exercise Science degree provides you with a solid foundation.

The BS in Psychology is designed for students that are passionate about integrating psychology and natural sciences with the goal of pursuing careers or graduate programs such as but not limited to clinical psychology, behavioral or cognitive neuroscience, and animal behavior.

The BS program also prepares students for further study or employment in fields such as behavioral neurobiology, health psychology, and behavioral medicine.

Animal Behavior: Through a biological and psychological perspective on behavior,this track is designed for students  interested in jobs or graduate programs researching animal behavior.

As a student in the Economics major in the School of Business, Government, and Economics at SPU, you will study many vital issues that affect human flourishing while emphasizing a Christian perspective on individual and society's decisions about how to organize the production and distribution of goods and services.

About the Economics Major

Economics is the study of human decision making, interconnectedness, and the distribution and allocation of scarce resources. This major emphasizes development and financial economics, with a focus on decision making, resource stewardship, and public policy.

Our program prepares students with industry experience through our SBGE internship program. Our students have held internships at leading local businesses and industries such as Safeco, Morgan Stanley, Starbucks, and Nordstrom.

Students pursuing graduate study are encouraged to complete our 15 credit calculus series. Our graduates have gone on to study at top institutions such as Notre Dame, Baylor, and the University of Washington.

A Public Policy concentration prepares you to pursue work and/or further studies in public administration, global development, and politics.

The Museum Studies Track supplements the History major core with coursework that helps you prepare for graduate study and employment in the vigorous and innovative field of museum studies and public history.

Graduates who complete this program will be well prepared for immediate employment, or for further graduate study, in the vigorous and growing fields of museum, archival, and public history.

The History Department launched a new curriculum in 2020 for its History Majors and Minors. The new curriculum is designed for students to grow in:

• Cross-cultural insight
• Understanding of historic inequalities and the construction of race, gender, and class over time
• The cultivation of empathy for others
• Drawing on the past to address the pressing problems of today 
• Wrestling with the sometimes dark and difficult periods of human history--wars, displacement, and injustice--and contemplating how the Christian story can speak into these challenging moments.
• Cultivating career-oriented skills and professional experiences through a new "Careers in History" class and internship placement support

The new sequence of classes for the majors and minors helps students achieve mastery of an essential skill set in an intentional way: students first take classes in "Thinking Historically," then study "Systems in History," and finally learn to "Do History" themselves.

Our redesigned majors and minor offer students flexibility in their choice of electives while ensuring that students will have broad exposure to many different time periods and world regions.

When you receive a bachelor of science in Ecology at SPU, you will be ready to work in ecology or biological subdisciplines such as marine biology, forestry, fisheries, agriculture, behavioral ecology, and wildlife management. This major prepares you for graduate studies or a professional ecology/biology career.

About the Ecology Major

As an Ecology major, you will focus on principles that enhance environmental quality and make efficient use of nonrenewable resources. You will also learn to apply this knowledge to help address agricultural and environmental challenges.

Chemistry forms a foundation for the study of a wide variety of scientific disciplines. It is concerned primarily with matter, energy, and their interactions. Chemists are both creators and problem-solvers who do everything from create new substances to analyze criminal evidence. They are at the forefront of efforts to make sure that technology serves people, rather than the reverse. And at Seattle Pacific University, chemists and chemistry are informed and influenced by a Christian worldview.
