Master of Athletic Training

at EDUCO - The University of Tulsa USA

Overview

Athletic trainers are healthcare professionals who work closely with physicians to not only administer preventive and emergency injury care for athletes and physically active individuals, but also follow through by setting up the treatment regimen and rehabilitation protocol.

There are currently two routes to obtaining an athletic training degree from The University of Tulsa: a five-year accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s program, and a two-year Post-Baccalaureate master’s program. Athletic training students of both programs gain experience under the direct supervision of faculty and professional staff, all of whom are BOC certified and Oklahoma licensed athletic trainers. These experiences take place in a variety of settings including Division 1 athletics at The University of Tulsa, orthopedic clinics, high schools and occupational/industrial settings as a part of the required supervised practice. Students may also have the opportunity to work with professional sports teams and other special events.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

The Russell School of Chemical Engineering, a small, yet comprehensive department, has offered a master’s degree program since 1939 and a doctoral degree program since 1966. The school has established a strong tradition in the petroleum, natural gas, and environmental fields, and offers research opportunities in materials engineering, biochemical engineering, advanced modeling and simulation, alternative energy, surface science, and catalysis.

Our current research focuses on modern experimental approaches and state-of-the-art computational studies, allowing for investigation of fundamental phenomena as applied to “real-world” problems and thereby enhancing our interactions with industry. Our computational studies address a wide range of complex problems in multiple time and length scales, ranging from multiphase flow models to complete energy supply chains, which help catalyze solutions to complex societal challenges. Chemical engineering graduate studies offer a dynamic environment for challenging, stimulating research and provide close interaction between faculty and students due to our small size.

Environmental Studies & Earth Sciences

Master of Science in Geosciences - Thesis Option (STEM)

Geologists study the history, materials, processes and products of the Earth. Some pursue solely academic interests such as how mountains form and erode while others are interested in practical applications, exploring fossil fuels and minerals or planning construction sites and disposal locations. A geologist studies environmental impact.

The Department of Geosciences offers master of science degrees with specialization in geology, geophysics and environmental science.

Students research the most effective ways to detect oil, iron, copper, and many other minerals in the Earth while learning to identify and survey properties for environmental hazards. Our students also study the structure above and below the Earth’s surface to investigate earthquakes, oceanic shifts and other physical changes of our planet. Students are motivated to apply these principles creatively through training in advanced methods of analysis, research and synthesis. Graduates use their education to establish respectable careers in academia, consulting, industry and government.

Clinical psychology course work includes formal course work in the core areas of psychology, research methods, personality and psychopathology, principles of psychological assessment and intervention and professional issues in clinical psychology. The program trains students to do what psychologists actually do in today’s society: ethically apply knowledge of psychological theory, assessment, research methodology and clinical skill to complex clinical problems.

Our programs are based upon the scientist-practitioner model: we define psychological practice as the application of the theory, methods and results of scientific psychology to clinical problems. Licensing laws of states vary widely, and students should consult the licensing body in the state in which they intend to practice to determine opportunities and requirements for licensure at the master’s level.
