Bachelor of Science in Health Science, Emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy

The Bachelor of Science in Biology - Liberal Arts. The liberal arts major is designed for students who are interested in graduate school or employment directly after graduation. Students successfully completing the program will be prepared for graduate studies in wide range of disciplines, including environmental science, molecular biology and genetics, and forensic science, or employment as a research technician.

The Studio Art program is designed to prepare students for careers as artists in the fields of ceramics, illustration, photography, painting, printmaking and sculpture, as well as ensuring students meet entry requirements for graduate schools, in these areas of concentration. The Studio Art program provides students the instruction, facilities, equipment, and opportunities necessary to develop their skills, abilities, and historical perspectives in their chosen area of artistic specialization.
The Studio Art program fosters the intellectual, professional, personal and social development of its students. The curriculum balances the teaching of technical knowledge and skills with the development of critical conceptual and creative abilities. Faculty members are recognized professional artists, with a diversity of viewpoints and educational training that encourages students to investigate and appreciate different forms of art expression.

The Department of Health Sciences also offers an undergraduate baccalaureate degree in Health Sciences.  For the BS in Health Sciences students may choose an area of study in one of four tracks: Pre Physical Therapy, Pre Athletic Training, Exercise Science, or Pre Professional studies.  We encourage students to select an area of emphasis that most closely aligns with their professional, academic, and career goals.

Exercise Science
The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences—Exercise Science degree prepares students for  ntry into careers related to sport, exercise, and fitness. Students are presented with the classroom knowledge, handson skills, and practical experiences to assist them in achieving satisfying careers and making positive contributions to their profession and communities.

Computer Scientists commonly do three things: design and implement software, devise new ways to use computers, and develop effective ways to solve computing problems. They seek to understand why technology works, and apply that knowledge in practical ways.
 
Concord’s curriculum is designed to give students a thorough understanding of computers; the physics of the hardware, the underlying mathematical principles; and the creation of software solutions. The curriculum’s design is guided by recommendations from the Association of Computing Machinery and the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The core prepares students for a wide variety of careers and graduate school, but students can also choose one of three concentrations in which to specialize:

• Software Development - Designed for students who are interested in pursuing careers in software development or software engineering. Students in this concentration will learn to develop user-focused software solutions for a variety of different platforms.
• Cybersecurity - Designed for students interested in pursuing careers in computer security or related fields. Students in this concentration will learn how to test for and defend against security vulnerabilities. Students will also learn how to create secure software and handle the aftermath of security breaches.
• Analysis, Simulation, and Modeling - Designed for students interested in pursuing careers in analytics, artificial intelligence, or scientific computing. This concentration is suitable for double majors in Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Geosciences.

The general objective of the psychology program is to prepare students for professional training in the field of psychology by providing an overview of the essential methods and findings of experimental, clinical, and theoretical psychology. The primary theoretical orientation of the program is behavioral although the students will be exposed to multiple theoretical orientations. The scientist-practitioner model is emphasized in applied courses. Opportunities are provided for both human and non-human experimental research through environmental manipulation.

Students seeking the Bachelor of Science degree may earn a major or a minor in psychology. Note required grade average as described in the Department of Social Sciences.

Management
The mission of the management emphasis is to offer business students a curriculum that will prepare them to be effective managers; to equip them with critical thinking skills which will provide them with the knowledge to manage organizations and work with employees; to learn development skills to effectively lead people and manage projects; and to be valuable contributions to their organization and society.

Within the management emphasis, students gain extensive knowledge of basic business practices, focusing on coordinating efforts of people in order to accomplish goals & objectives, by using available resources effectively & efficiently.  Critical thinking skills are instilled in students so that can better understand various theories and concepts involved in becoming a successful manager. Real-world examples & case studies are used to help students make the transition from the classroom into the corporate world. There are opportunities for students to participate in state wide Business Plan Competitions, international trips, & to achieve high recognition through CAPSIM Business Strategy Simulation.

Pre-Physical Therapy
The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences—Pre-Physical Therapy degree prepares students for entry into Physical Therapy School. Students are presented with the classroom knowledge, hands-on skills, and practical experiences to assist them in achieving satisfying careers and making positive contributions to their profession and communities.

This degree program is designed to prepare students for scientific careers or graduate study in geology and/or environmental science. The curriculum includes a comprehensive geology core that qualifies graduates to apply for licensure as a professional environmental geologist through ASBOG (Association of State Boards of Geology).  Students will acquire field, laboratory, and computer skills necessary for long-term employment in the environmental, engineering, geospatial, energy, and geologic workforce.

Geoscience is the study of the Earth, including its resources, fresh water, oceans, and atmosphere. As outlined by the American Geosciences Institute, geoscientists explore, study, and monitor the Earth to protect it and the people who live on it. They seek solutions to some of our most challenging problems:

• Finding adequate supplies of natural resources such as geothermal energy, fossil fuels, minerals, and water
• Developing natural resources in ways that safeguard the environment
• Maintaining the quality and sustainability of groundwater and surface water supplies
• Reducing human loss and suffering from natural hazards and disasters, such as floods and landslides
• Determining geologic controls on natural environments and habitats, and predicting the impact of humans
• Understanding global climate patterns and the history of global change through geologic time
• Understanding how naturally occurring elements and minerals behave in nature and how they affect our health
• Advising policy makers on scientific and environmental issues that affect society

The Interdisciplinary Studies degree gives students the opportunity to design a course of study that includes music as an important component of their career or professional goals. This degree can lead to fulfilling careers in fields such as independent music teaching, arts management, music theatre, and music entrepreneurship. In addition to studies in music, students choose one or more complementary academic disciplines to fulfill their career goals including pre-approved tracks in theatre, public relations, and business administration. Students also have the option to work with a faculty member to design additional areas of study.

The emphasis in marketing focuses on preparing students for careers such as Brand, Product, Sales, Marketing, Advertising, Social Media, or PR Managers, as well as Research Analyst/Director, Media Director, Entrepreneur/Small Business Owner, or CRM Specialist.
