All of the full-time History Department faculty members hold terminal degrees in the field of history and have numerous years of teaching experience. A liberal arts degree in history can help you recognize the origins and purpose of government, the law, religious beliefs, forms of worship, political choices and ways of living. Through the study of history, you’ll learn how to develop a coherent and sophisticated mental map that orients you to the time, place, and circumstances of your own existence. By analyzing history, you’ll also enhance your critical thinking skills as you search for the relevance and meaning of historical events.

If you major in history at Concordia University Chicago, you will take writing and researching history, senior seminar and history topics courses. You will be required to select one course in American History, European History and Non-Western History.

You may choose from many electives to fulfill degree requirements, including world history, U.S. Women’s History, 20th Century Europe, Illinois history and many more.

Concordia’s Studio Art major ensures you understand visual arts from a studio perspective, as well as the promotional skills to thrive as a studio artist.

The Art Department consists of large, well-equipped studios, a dark room for photography, a computer lab, a lecture hall and an outdoor kiln area for raku firing of ceramics.

If you are interested in advancing your career and obtaining a management position within a health care-related organization, an MBA specialization in health care management will help get you there.

This specialization addresses the unique attributes of health care organizations. Students are prepared to take on leadership roles and address specific managerial issues encountered in today’s health care economy. Students will develop critical thinking and fundamental business analysis skills. They will leave this specialization proficient at problem solving the operational and financial challenges that health care administrators face.

• Understand and analyze accreditation, regulatory, licensure, and compliance issues as they relates specifically to the healthcare industry.
• Apply and assess the economic supply and demand aspects of the healthcare service delivery model(s) and the impact on the organization and stakeholders.
• Identify and evaluate the major causes of global healthcare delivery, financial, management and political challenges and develop strategies to improve the delivery of  healthcare policy and services.

At Concordia University Chicago, our small political science class sizes make it easy for students to get to know their professors. Professors are easily accessible to answer students’ questions and informally chat about class discussions or a wide variety of related issues.

We’re proud that approximately 90 percent of our students are employed or enrolled in graduate programs in their fields within six months of graduation. Biology is the study of life, which can be studied through molecular, organismal, cellular and ecological perspectives. There is growing demand in the workforce for biology expertise; the job outlook is very promising.

Concordia University Chicago offers a Biology program in which you can earn either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. As a member of the program, you will be encouraged to supplement your classroom learning through independent study in the Department of Natural Sciences.

The B.A. in English is a 36-hour major that requires coursework in British, American, and world literature, as well as literary theory, linguistics, and writing. It requires you to experience a broad range of literature, yet it allows you to select from a variety of courses.   

The four courses required of all majors are Literary Theory and Criticism, Linguistics, Shakespeare, and Seminar in English. Students take Literary Theory early in the major to learn the theories and methods that underlie literary studies. The Seminar in English, usually focusing on a single author, provides a capstone experience near the end of the major. It requires significant research and culminates in a long seminar paper.

Of the remaining eight courses in the major, one must be in American literature, one in British literature, one in world literature, and one in twentieth-century literature. Multiple course options exist to fulfill each of these requirements, so you can choose a course that interests you from each area. One advanced writing course is also required. The remaining hours may be taken as electives.

Concordia University Chicago's MBA specialization in digital marketing provides you with the strategic and analytical skills to guide organizations in a digital world that is overflowing with data on customers, products, and interactions. The four courses within this specialization are designed to help you understand digital marketing strategy and planning, mobile marketing and social media strategies as well as digital marketing analytics. Your organizations are demanding that you understand important and appropriate digital metrics and how to use them to analyze and improve digital marketing initiatives and marketing ROI. Graduates will successfully champion digital marketing campaigns while achieving their organization’s growth initiatives.

As a student in Classical Liberal Studies, you will be challenged to make connections between history and modernity.

Through rigorous study, you will apply classical concepts in a contemporary setting to address the needs of the 21st century church and world. You will draw on the strength of a broad variety of Concordia University Chicago’s programs, including music, theology and languages, as well as the quality of worship life on campus.

In this unique program, you will work with faculty who are respected and recognized throughout the Church as well as nationally in their fields of study. Your studies will span several departments—from courses in Latin and Greek to courses on Shakespeare, and from modern European history to ethical theory.

A Classical Liberal Studies minor is also available to complement other Concordia University Chicago undergraduate degrees.

Our Bachelor of Arts in Spanish is a broad-basis baccalaureate program that satisfies career options and is excellent preparation for students interested in continuing education at the graduate level.

Our courses offer in-depth studies in areas such as Latin American cultures, Latin American literature, Spanish literature and more.

You will be able to communicate effectively in the Spanish language and have a greater understanding of Spanish and Latin American cultures, allowing you to excel in any career path in which you will use Spanish.

The Spanish major progresses from basic language skills to advanced courses in conversation, grammar, composition and linguistics. In addition, you will study masterpieces of Spanish and Latin literature and learn more about the diversity of cultures among Spanish speakers. Upon completion of the program, you will demonstrate proficiency in speaking, writing and reading Spanish, as well as a greater understanding of history and traditions associated with countries where Spanish is spoken.
