The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a comprehensive curriculum (grounded in foundational mathematics and physics) that prepares you for professional work or further graduate study. Design is integrated throughout the curriculum. You will gain experience with engineering computer software and a range of laboratory tools as you progress toward upper level coursework and a yearlong senior capstone project.
Concentrations in Aerospace
Aerospace focuses on industries in which engineers design or build aircraft, missiles, and systems for national defense, or spacecraft. Complementing your general mechanical engineering principles, you study subjects such as propulsion, stability and control, structures, mechanics, and aerodynamics, which is the study of how air interacts with moving objects. As you look forward, this provides you with additional courses to pursue career options at aerospace companies like NASA, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, Draken, etc., and may spark an interest in undergraduate research and advanced study in graduate school

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

The M.S. in Computer Science program attracts both recent college graduates and working professionals with clear aptitude in mathematics and logical reasoning. Students in the computer science major write a thesis. Students in the analytics track master commercial data analytic tools for visualization and analysis techniques.
Completing the Computer Science track will prepare you to design and analyze algorithms to solve problems and study the performance of computer hardware and software. In addition, it will give you a strong foundation as you encounter a range of problems, such as determining what problems can be solved with computers and the complexity of the algorithms that solve them to designing applications that perform well on handheld devices, that are easy to use, and that uphold security measures.

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with Concentrations in Autonomous and Electric Vehicles (STEM)
The Department of Electrical Engineering offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines rigorous and balanced foundation in physics, mathematics, and computing; core courses in electronics, information systems, and digital systems; and higher-level skill in the analysis and design of systems. You will gain experience with a range of state-of-the-art devices and laboratory tools, progressing toward upper-level coursework and a yearlong senior capstone design project.
Concentrations in Autonomous and Electric Vehicles
This concentration covers emerging topics in both the autonomous system and the electric vehicle system. It requires two courses on autonomous vehicle systems and two courses on electric vehicle systems. The autonomous vehicle system covers the software and hardware architectures of the autonomous driving, vehicle dynamics system and modeling, different sensors used for autonomous driving and techniques for sensor fusion to define vehicle localization, and environment perception. An advanced course covers computer vision methods for detection, control and motion planning in autonomous vehicles, and connected vehicles concepts. The electric vehicle system covers the modeling and control of electric motors, and the hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), including architecture, sub-system design, and sizing, modeling, and energy management strategies. It also covers vehicle dynamics along with energy storage, and power electronics utilized in HEVs as well as the environmental and economic impacts and current limitations of HEVs.

This concentration focuses on project-based and intensive courses grounded in robotics, autonomy, real-time operating systems, and systems engineering, and includes methods to analyze, model, and control robotic mechanisms in the fundamentals of kinematics, dynamics and the design and implementation of motion trajectory planning algorithms. Additional topics include state estimation and dynamic parameter identification of a robotic system. Students will learn about embedded systems control, computer vision, localization and planning, mapping algorithms, and sensor integration into real-time operating systems. Students design, assemble, and program a scale-model autonomous, self-driving vehicle. The concentration will also provide the theoretical and practical basis required for understanding Digital Image Processing fundamentals and their applications on gray and colored images as it relates to autonomous robotic programming.
