The HCC Sociology Associate in Arts degree pathway is for students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree in sociology or a related degree at a university. Sociology is the scientific study of human behavior in society. Sociology associate students will examine a wide range of human interactions, including marriage and family, crime and deviance, culture and social change, group processes and interactions having to do with class, race and gender; diversity and globalization, social stratification and mobility and social movements.

Program courses will help develop the student’s ability to examine the broader connections between personal life, public issues and social structure. Many university programs require the completion of specific courses prior to acceptance. It is the student's responsibility to contact the institution to ensure transferability.

Please note only 60 of these credits are needed for AA degree completion. For each pathway, IDS 2891 is a degree requirement, and for most of the pathways, SLS 1106 is required for first-time-in-college students. CGS 2100 may be able to be tested out for no credit. This pathway is for students who want to pursue a four-year degree in sociology.

The IT project management AS degree prepares you to manage information technology systems.

If you are a licensed or licensure-eligible paramedic, or have been accepted into the paramedic program, the emergency medical services AS degree program offers you an opportunity to specialize in education, management or technology.

Course work combines classroom lecture, practical skills laboratory and actual patient clinical experiences. The lecture portion (seven credit hours) covers the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Technician as well as skills required by the state. The practical skills laboratory portion (three credit hours) includes application practice and performance testing in simulated patient care situations. The clinical portion (two credit hour) provides actual patient care during transport to a hospital and in the hospital setting.

The hospitality and tourism management AS degree prepares you for employment in management positions in the hospitality industry, and/or provides supplemental training. The hospitality industry includes the hotel, motel, bed and breakfast, resort, club, marina, and other lodging organizations.

Graduates may enter positions such as catering and sales representative, guest services representative, food and beverage specialist, guest services specialist, hospitality supervisor, catering and sales supervisor, food & beverage supervisor, guest services supervisor, assistant hospitality manager, hospitality manager, and motel/hotel manager.

The dental hygiene AS degree provides the skills and knowledge to become a licensed dental hygienist. Vital members of the dental team, dental hygienists provide non-surgical periodontal therapy that includes scaling and root planing, adult and child prophylaxis, placement of dental sealants, exposing and processing radiographs, and individualized patient education.

The dental hygiene program includes five consecutive semesters of coursework and requires 35-40 hours per week. Graduates must pass national and state dental hygiene board exams to become registered dental hygienists. Students may also complete certifications in expanded duties that are permitted by Florida Statute Title XXXII for dental auxiliaries.

Nursing is a challenging, rewarding career. A nationwide nursing shortage means great career opportunities are available. Accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), our nursing AS degree program takes four semesters, and graduates are eligible to take the National licensing exam NCLEX. • The dental AA pathway degree is for students who wish to pursue a Bachelor's degree toward a career in dentistry.

This pathway is for students who want to pursue a four-year degree in the supply chain industry, which functions to facilitate the flow of goods, services, and finances among business on a global scale. Careers include positions in manufacturing, distribution, transportation, and retail.

This pathway is for students who want to pursue a four-year college/university degree in such fields as history, humanities, education, pre-law, political science, museum studies, journalism, library science, archeology/classics or international studies programs. This pathway is broadly designed to allow students to cater the major to their own interests, however, students are encouraged to meet with a full-time history faculty member to discuss their program interests in their first semester at HCC.
