International Year One in the Arts will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at Drew University. Upon successful completion of International Year One and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your third year of undergraduate study at Drew University or at a number of well-known US universities. Progression is the transition from an INTO program to a university degree program.

Theatre Arts
The Department of Theatre and Dance trains you in the full range of theatrical disciplines, providing you with mentorship and support in creative expression, critical thinking and personal development. Our goal is to create total theatre artists.
The Theatre department at Drew is dedicated to a broad-based study of the history, literature, theory and practice of theatre and its various disciplines in the context of an overall liberal arts education. Students grow as artists through rigorous academic courses, internships, exciting opportunities for professional collaboration and an extensive co-curricular production program that centers on student initiative.

Political Science
The Political Science and International Relations Department engages students in the study of how people govern themselves—from the smallest communities to the international system. In the town meeting, the halls of Congress or the United Nations, the great political questions are the same—how to reconcile individual aspirations and community needs, freedom and equality, authority and justice, participation and power.
The department offers students a major in Political Science and another one in International Relations. We also offer minors in Political Science, International Relations and Law Justice and Society.

The Master of Science in Finance (MS) program is a rigorous 30 credit immersion in the quantitative and analytical methods and tools used throughout the financial sector.

Building on Drew’s two decades of success with our unique Wall Street Semester and strong ties to the financial services industry, MS students receive the training and credentials needed to succeed in careers in a variety of organizations, including banks, financial firms, global corporations, government agencies and nonprofits.

Unique to the Drew MS in Finance program, participating students will have opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills through financial internships, in the real world, after completing classroom coursework. Likewise, Drew’s co-curricular programming includes guest lectures and trips into NYC to visit financial firms, regulators, and even nonprofits centered on promoting ethical financial behavior and financial literacy.

The Art Department offers a rigorous, supportive and personalized environment with a sound liberal arts foundation. We are committed to developing in each student the capacity for creative problem-solving in making art. The Dorothy Young Center for the Arts is home to the department’s offerings. An outstanding faculty of practicing artists, dedicated to both their art practice and teaching excellence is teamed with a rare depth of facility: amazing studios, brilliant light, safety, technology, and space.

Crime, inequality, health care, education, politics, immigration, family, gender and race and ethnicity — today’s sociologists study all these topics. Using scientific methods to insure accuracy, sociologists focus on the causes and consequences of social interaction. Through a combination of classroom study and field work, Drew’s sociology program applies theory and research to real world problems.

Through a rich array of courses, sociology majors come to understand the connections between their everyday lives, the larger social structures of various societies and the broad global changes which characterize our times.

Pan-African Studies is an interdisciplinary program that offers extensive study of the history, cultures, politics and socioeconomic structures of Africa and the African Diaspora. Students develop a comparative perspective in order to understand the rich network of linkages, movements and exchanges among African peoples; the complex geographical and cultural landscapes that shape their lives, and the interactions among Europeans, Asians, Native Americans and peoples of African descent. The program teaches students to use diverse historical, political, ethnographic, artistic and literary forms of analysis from the humanities, social and behavioral sciences and fine arts.

Mathematics lies at the heart of the liberal arts. Based in abstraction and logical reasoning, mathematics is both a body of knowledge and an elegant and useful way of perceiving our world. Through mathematics, we can distill and describe the otherwise hidden patterns and relations among things. Because of this, mathematics finds ubiquitous application, from the natural and social sciences to the humanities and the arts. Precise abstraction and quantification play an increasingly important role in these diverse areas, and the study of mathematics can provide a foundation for any of them.

Computer science is centered around the practice of applied problem solving using technology. Rooted in the natural sciences and mathematics, it relates to many aspects of the social sciences (e.g., social network analysis, human-computer interaction, etc.), the arts (e.g., interaction design) and the humanities (e.g., media studies).

Drew’s computer science program is designed to stimulate critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity, together with effective communication skills that prepare students for academic and professional achievement. Computer science students at Drew learn by doing. In many courses, students and instructors explore core computing topics through projects, often for real customers. To date, these projects have resulted in many completed software applications installed and in use at our partner sites. Other opportunities for real-world learning include a variety of internships and collaborative research projects with our faculty and other students.

International Year One program in Pre-Engineering will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at Drew University. Upon successful completion of International Year one and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your third year of undergraduate study at a number of well-known US universities.
This transition from an INTO program to a university degree program is called progression. You must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA per semester to remain in good academic standing in the Pathway program at Drew.

Engineering Physics
Drew’s engineering physics major is designed to provide an ideal pathway for students interested in a career in engineering. The core curriculum is built around the physics, mathematics, chemistry and computer science courses that form the foundational knowledge of engineering and introduce the engineering/design mindset required to solve today’s complex problems. Students pursuing engineering physics at Drew will be broadly trained with both strong technical skills and other critical transferable skills for effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. Some graduates continue their engineering studies through combined degree programs with Columbia and Washington University or through other graduate programs. Others pursue careers in fields ranging from acoustical engineering to computer aided design or solid state device fabrication.
