International Year One in the Arts will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at Drew University. Upon successful completion of International Year One and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your third year of undergraduate study at Drew University or at a number of well-known US universities. Progression is the transition from an INTO program to a university degree program.

Art History
Art History majors study the visual arts, past and present, as forms of communication that are shaped by physical, cultural, political, psychological and economic contexts. Our majors are guided through a curriculum that provides historical and geographic breadth in the history of art and an introduction to studio art practice. In small, discussion-based courses our majors master the critical reading, writing and speaking skills that will prepare them to successfully navigate our media-rich world.
The Art History curriculum enhances classroom learning with experiential opportunities. We take full advantage of our proximity to New York City, a global art capital. The New York Semester on Contemporary Art is often described by our majors as a formative experience. Museums and Society, a course conducted partially at regional museums, offers another opportunity for experiential learning. Majors are also encouraged to include credit-bearing arts-related internships as part of their curriculum.

These internships and experiential learning opportunities encourage students to begin thinking about their careers and help them develop valuable skills while at Drew.

The Political Science and International Relations Department engages students in the study of how people govern themselves—from the smallest communities to the international system. In the town meeting, the halls of Congress or the United Nations, the great political questions are the same—how to reconcile individual aspirations and community needs, freedom and equality, authority and justice, participation and power.

The department offers students a major in Political Science and another one in International Relations. We also offer minors in Political Science, International Relations and Law Justice and Society.

Political Science is the study of how people govern themselves. The major provides students a solid grounding in American politics, international relations, comparative politics and political theory. Through thought-provoking courses and multiple experiential learning opportunities, including the possibility of taking courses in Washington, D.C., political science majors work closely with the faculty to explore politics and government from many different viewpoints.

The Department of Theatre and Dance trains you in the full range of theatrical disciplines, providing you with mentorship and support in creative expression, critical thinking and personal development. Our goal is to create total theatre artists.
The Theatre department at Drew is dedicated to a broad-based study of the history, literature, theory and practice of theatre and its various disciplines in the context of an overall liberal arts education. Students grow as artists through rigorous academic courses, internships, exciting opportunities for professional collaboration and an extensive co-curricular production program that centers on student initiative.

Creative Writing is an area of concentration within Drew’s English program that provides you with an informed understanding of depth and breadth of literature written in English, while at the same time helping you to develop your writing skills and unique voice.

We prepare you with a broad and balanced program of study that emphasizes interconnections between various literary genres as well as other disciplines such as history, science, fine arts—and more.
You’ll develop your writing through reading and writing assignments, lectures, workshops, public readings by renowned writers who visit campus—as well as many opportunities to present and discuss your work with peers and professors.

Neuroscience
The Neuroscience major at Drew is an interdisciplinary program of study that allows students to explore the brain from the perspectives of many different disciplines, including biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, philosophy, and psychology. The neuroscience curriculum introduces students to current theories that explain how the brain works at a variety of levels, from molecules to behavior. Intermediate and advanced coursework provides students with the opportunity to develop an increasingly more sophisticated understanding of neural and cognitive processes, while providing them with the critical thinking and technical skills necessary to actively address some of the pressing questions in neuroscience today. In addition, the wide range of electives provides students with the opportunity to think about the workings of the brain in a broader context, and to expand their study of neuroscience beyond its traditional roots in biology and psychology.

Art
The Art Department offers a rigorous, supportive and personalized environment with a sound liberal arts foundation. We are committed to developing in each student the capacity for creative problem-solving in making art. The Dorothy Young Center for the Arts is home to the department’s offerings. An outstanding faculty of practicing artists, dedicated to both their art practice and teaching excellence is teamed with a rare depth of facility: amazing studios, brilliant light, safety, technology, and space.

A key feature of Drew’s program is an internship, which allows students to build experience and work with a talented group of industry mentors. Mentors work with students in diverse areas such as municipal bond research, derivatives trading, and private equity, and each student has the opportunity to expand their network with NYC-based financial institutions during their time at Drew. A team-based portfolio management assignment occurs during the capstone, which allows students to present asset allocation recommendations to a panel of industry practitioners and financial experts

Investment Management

Drew’s STEM-designated Master of Science in Finance program with a concentration in Investment Management is a rigorous, 30-credit immersion into investments. This concentration emphasizes expertise in financial statement analysis, investment ethics, and advanced portfolio management techniques. It is anticipated that many of the students in the Investment Management concentration may begin their pursuit of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation during their studies at Drew. Last year, Drew’s Master of Science in Finance Program fielded competitive teams for the CME Group University Trading Challenge and the Chicago Quantitative Alliance (CQA) Investment Challenge. Graduates are prepared for careers in a variety of organizations, such as retail and institutional investment management, trading, and other investment-related services.

The marketing major is a liberal arts program that takes an integrated, multidisciplinary, and critical approach to the study and practice of marketing. The major encompasses courses that emphasize strategic planning, data analysis, communication skills, and teamwork.  We will soon be offering a New York semester in marketing that gives our students the opportunities to meet with marketing experts and visit leading marketing firms.  Our graduates are prepared to work across many private and public organizations in a wide variety of marketing roles.
