Bioengineering

Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering students concentrate in one of three areas: Biomechanics, Bioelectricity, or Pre-Med. You'll first build a foundation in universal engineering theories, mathematics, and the physical and life sciences, before moving on to courses in your area of interest:

Mathematical Business Economics

Students in the BS in Mathematical Business Economics use quantitative analytics to address specific needs in the corporate world, grooming themselves for careers as economists, actuaries, investment managers, financial planners, marketing managers, and more.

The Africana Studies major will introduce the student to an interdisciplinary program that coordinates and develops courses in African and African Diaspora life and culture.

The criminology program’s objective is to provide students with sound methodological and analytic skills, leading to critical understanding of criminal behavior and the operation of the criminal justice system. The program will prepare you for further studies, decision-making, and leadership positions in the fields of law, criminal justice administration, policy development, and national security.

Students majoring in criminology will take required classes like:

• Introduction to Criminology
• Sociology of Crime and Delinquency
• Theoretical Perspectives on Crime and Justice
• Statistics in Sociology or Statistics in Psychology
• Research Methods in Sociology

Students will then take courses in two categories: Crime and Justice and Law, Politics, and Society, as well as electives such as Ethics in Policing; Domestic Violence; Mental Illness and Criminal Behavior; Gender, Crime, and Criminal Justice; and Crime Scene Investigation Methods.

An INTO Hofstra Graduate Pathway program in Creative Arts Therapy Counseling will prepare you to enter your next semester of a master’s degree program at Hofstra University. This transition from an INTO Hofstra program to a university degree program is called progression.

Creative Arts Therapy Counseling
The Master of Arts degree (MA) in creative arts therapy counseling, currently approved by the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), is designed to provide students with a critical knowledge base comprised of content areas identified by both the American Art Therapy Association and New York State Education Department. Graduates will be prepared to work effectively in hospitals, agencies, rehabilitation centers, adult facilities, day treatment centers, mental health centers and schools. Graduates work with individuals who have experienced mental and physical illness, trauma, addictions, changes in living, developmental disabilities, autism, and those who seek personal development. This program is the first step that students take toward achieving New York state creative arts therapy licensure.

This creative arts therapy master's degree incorporates counseling strategies in core courses and selected electives. Our electives include expressive therapies (drama, dance, movement, play, poetry, music) as well as courses in other related disciplines such as counseling, marriage and family therapy, and special education.

Theater Arts
For the student preparing for a career in the practice of theater as a performer, director, designer or technician. The BFA degree (in performance or production) is intended to provide a small, specialized group of such students with a high level of competence.

The BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE is the largest program in the Department of Computer Science and offers a deep foundation in the main areas of computing. There are a wide range of available concentrations to pursue in fields such as cybersecurity, gaming and animation, web and mobile applications, plus flexible choices of technical electives.

Gaming and Graphics

The Concentration in Gaming and Graphics is aimed at educating students in the design and development of video games and game engines.  This is a very exciting and growing industry. Video games have permeated all segments of population and industry from entertainment to educational. All courses in this concentration include a significant experiential component.

An INTO Hofstra International Year One program in Natural Science will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at Hofstra University. Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your next semester of undergraduate study at Hofstra University. Applied Physics - Computer Science

The BS in Applied Physics allows students to combine the BS in Physics with a concentration in biochemistry, computer science, or engineering. The curriculum includes electives in humanities and social science to give the student a general background to supplement training as a specialist.
