Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences is an interdisciplinary graduate major that first introduces students to the elements of the Earth system and the processes of mass and energy flow among them through a set of core courses. Students then pursue focused graduate course work and research in the following concentration areas, directed by their program committee.

Atmospheric Sciences
The field of atmospheric science is inherently interdisciplinary, requiring knowledge of physics, chemistry, biology, math, and computational methods. Increasingly, atmospheric science has been expanding to include studies of the effect of the climate on humans (e.g., health) and vice versa. Scientists can focus on fieldwork, satellite data analysis, modeling, or lab work, though many atmospheric scientists use a variety of methods to understand the atmosphere, and they study processes ranging from global to microscale. Atmospheric scientists also study the relationships between the atmosphere and other climate system components (oceans, sea ice, vegetation, etc.).

Geophysics
Geophysics is concerned with physical processes within and on Earth, especially the internal physical constitution of the planet, and seismic, gravitational, geothermal, geoelectrical, geomagnetic phenomena and their relation to geological processes. The geophysics concentration offers graduate work toward MA, MS.

Oceanography
Oceanography, the application of the sciences to the study of the oceans, is an interdisciplinary environmental science concerned with all processes: biological, chemical, geological, and physical, as well as the interactions between the ocean. The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences graduate major offers MA, MS degrees with a concentration in oceanography.

The Department of Mathematics offers graduate programs leading to the M.A & M.S degrees in Mathematics with research emphasis possible in a variety of areas within pure and applied mathematics and in mathematics education. There are active faculty research groups in algebra and number theory, analysis, applied mathematics, geometry and topology, mathematical biology, mathematics education, numerical analysis, and probability.

Economics

• The department offers four different paths in the major and a minor:
• General Economics Option - Organizations want employees who can think, communicate orally, write, and solve problems, and who are comfortable with quantitative analysis.
• Managerial Economics Option - The Managerial Economics Option is an interdisciplinary program which allows students to use business classes toward the requirements of the economics degree.
• Law, Economics and Policy Option - The Law, Economics and Policy Option is an interdisciplinary program drawing from political science and philosophy courses as well as economics.
• Mathematical Economics Option - As the economics profession becomes increasingly mathematical, economics majors who plan to go to graduate school need a strong math background.

Environmental Economics and Policy
With a degree in Environmental Economics and Policy you will be an expert at identifying the role that humans play in environmental quality, as well as in developing the solutions. Our approach is to combine data with rigorous theory.  With this degree, you will have a set of skills in theory, quantitative methods, and communication that are highly sought by employers in government, non-profits, and private industry.  Or, an Environmental Economics and Policy degree provides an excellent foundation on which to apply graduate school.  In short, this degree (offered both on campus and online) is a springboard to a variety of rewarding careers!

Our Master's International Direct pairs a Direct Entry I-20 with customized support during the first term of students' graduate studies in MEng Industrial Engineering. Students will benefit from increased support throughout the predeparture and academic journey as they study alongside domestic students.

Industrial Engineering is the application of science, mathematics, and engineering methods to complex system integration and operation. Because the systems with which they work is so large and complex, industrial engineers (IEs) must develop expertise in a wide variety of disciplines, the ability to work well with people, and a broad, systems perspective.

All IE graduate students learn advanced methods of system integration and operation. As practitioners, MEng and MS graduates analyze and design facilities, material handing systems, manufacturing processes, information systems, and workstations. They also develop, apply, and oversee policies, procedures, and algorithms for production planning, inventory control, resource allocation and scheduling, quality assurance, and supply chain management.

Gain a career advantage in today's economy by adding this language and the knowledge of the German culture to your résumé. German continues to be one of the leading languages of science, arts, philosophy and history. German is spoken by more than 200 million speakers worldwide, half of which speak it as their first language. After English, German is the second most used language on the internet. It is the official language of six European countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Belgium. In addition, a bachelor's degree in German is a great stepping stone to graduate or law school.

Applied Economics
The program is designed and staffed by OSU’s distinguished graduate faculty of Applied Economics, drawn from the Departments of Applied Economics; Forest Ecosystems and Society; Forest Engineering, Resources, and Management; the School of Social and Behavioral Health Sciences; and the Economics Program in the School of Public Policy.

Computer science is the study of algorithms and problem solving. These problems apply to every scientific, engineering, and mathematical field, making computer scientists relevant in every professional field today. A computer science degree at Oregon State can give you the skills to program a custom low level sensor board all the way up to coordinating cloud datacenters full of servers.

Ethnic Studies
Ethnic Studies majors and minors take comparative core courses on "race" and ethnicity and select one major area of concentration from the following: African American Studies, Asian Pacific American Studies, Chicana/o Latina/o Studies, Native American Studies. In addition, majors must complete a nine-credit graded internship working with an entity that provides service to one or more of the ethnic communities named above. The minor internship, which is optional, consists of three credits.

Students can earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering. The undergraduate curriculum is founded on a sound background in basic sciences (chemistry, physics, biology) and mathematics (calculus, differential equations), and strengthened with engineering science fundamentals (engineering mechanics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer). Upper division coursework in environmental engineering includes analysis and design of water and wastewater treatment systems, hazardous substance management and regulations, air pollution control technologies, and fate and transport of chemicals in the environment. All students participate in a capstone-design experience meant to foster interaction and communication between different engineering disciplines while applying environmental engineering principles to a real-world problem.
