An INTO OSU Graduate Pathway program in Industrial Engineering will prepare you to enter your next term of a master’s degree program at Oregon State University. Industrial Engineering

Industrial Engineering is the application of science, mathematics, and engineering methods to complex system integration and operation. Because the systems with which they work is so large and complex, industrial engineers (IEs) must develop expertise in a wide variety of disciplines, the ability to work well with people, and a broad, systems perspective.

All IE graduate students learn advanced methods of system integration and operation. As practitioners, MEng and MS graduates analyze and design facilities, material handing systems, manufacturing processes, information systems, and workstations. They also develop, apply, and oversee policies, procedures, and algorithms for production planning, inventory control, resource allocation and scheduling, quality assurance, and supply chain management.

As researchers, M.S. and Ph.D. graduates advance the field of industrial and manufacturing engineering by their work in industrial corporations and government agencies. As educators, Ph.D. graduates teach and perform research in industrial and manufacturing engineering in universities around the world.

To be eligible for graduate studies in the industrial engineering graduate program, applicants must have a baccalaureate or master’s degree in science, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or business as well as at least one course in each of the following preparatory areas: linear algebra, statistics, engineering economy and computer programming.

The Radiation Health Physics program is designed to prepare students for careers involved with the many beneficial applications of nuclear energy, radiation, and radioactive materials. The Radiation Health Physics profession is essential to society’s well-being since they enable significant public benefits through energy security, national defense, medical health, and industrial competitiveness.

These graduate curricula and research programs are designed for students with professional interests in the field of radiation protection. This specialized field involves an integrated study of the physical aspects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, their biological effects, and the methods used to protect people and their environment from radiation hazards while still enabling the beneficial uses of radiation and radioactive materials.

Our Master's International Direct pairs a Direct Entry I-20 with customized support during the first term of students' graduate studies in MEng Chemical Engineering. Students will benefit from increased support throughout the predeparture and academic journey as they study alongside domestic students.

Chemical engineering is the study and modeling of systems where heat and fluid flow are coupled with chemical reactions. Examples of systems are the human body, ground water, the atmosphere, the ocean, and chemical reactors. Natural systems are measured and modeled in order to understand present and future behavior. Man-made systems are specifically designed to convert raw materials into more useful products.

Making useful products requires using mathematics and science to plan, develop, design, operate, and improve processes. Some processes are micro-scale, as in computer chip manufacturing, and some are large-scale, as in petroleum refining. Typical products from these processes include computer chips, solar cells, batteries, pharmaceuticals, plastics, synthetic fibers, composite materials, pulp and paper, and consumer products ranging from detergents to cosmetics. Chemical engineers find employment in large high-tech companies, environmental consulting firms, large commodity companies and small software companies. Employment prospects for graduates in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest are strong.

The Department of Integrative Biology offers graduate work leading toward the master of science, and doctor of philosophy degrees in all areas of biology ranging from molecular to community levels.

Research is conducted in laboratories on campus, at the Malheur Field Station in southeastern Oregon, at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest, and in natural areas of the Cascade Mountains and Willamette Valley. Students also have entered into cooperative research programs in other departments, with the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, and with the Primate Research Center in Beaverton.

Renewable materials like wood are essential to human existence. The demand for the energy and thousands of consumer and industrial products made from wood and other renewable materials is growing, especially as society becomes more aware of sustainability and green issues.

To meet the global challenges of the 21st Century we must be more innovative in making, marketing and using products from renewable resources while minimizing environmental impacts. We need to learn more about complex renewable materials like wood and dream of new ways that they can help us in the future. Our domestic industry must develop and implement new technology and marketing strategies to remain competitive.

The graduate programs in wood science are designed for the future scientists, technologists and businesspersons who will meet the challenge of new knowledge and innovation.

Accountancy

Business leaders look to accountants to explain how their organization is spending money, where revenue is coming from and which tax deductions can be legally claimed. Accountants also keep the back-end of the business rolling without hitches or delays — ensuring the numbers remain above board at all times.

As an accountant, you’ll spend your days tracking daily financial transactions, while also keeping a strategic eye on the horizon. You hold the purse strings — paying employees, tracking cash flow and managing your organization’s most important assets. And when it comes time to scale up and seek outside funding, you’ll be the first person leadership asks for advice.

The business administration degree provides students with a broad overview of business; basic skills in accounting and quantitative methods; an understanding of the legal and social environment of business; a background in management and organizational behavior, marketing, finance, and operations management; an understanding of the entrepreneurial process; and the opportunity to integrate course work and further develop decision-making skills through the analysis of business cases.

Management
The management curriculum helps prepare students for careers as managers and supervisors in goods-producing and service enterprises. Students obtain a solid grounding in management of systems, personnel and quality. The integrative focus of the program also provides excellent preparation for graduate-level studies in law, urban and regional planning, public services administration, and health care administration. Management is the process of planning, organizing, leading and controlling all that encompasses human, material and financial resources in an organizational environment. A management degree means that you have learned the concepts of getting things done through others within organizations.

The Department of Civil and Construction Engineering offers three graduate degree programs, Master of Engineering (MEng), Master of Science in Civil Engineering (M.S.), and  Doctorate in Civil Engineering (Ph.D.).
