Students in the merchandising management program prepare for positions in management, merchandising, inventory control, sales promotion, public relations and human resources. This field offers a wide variety of career opportunities with retailers, manufacturers, marketing research firms and product information services. In a global, diverse, fast-paced and competitive environment, merchandisers are involved in market analysis, product planning, sourcing, procurement, pricing, distribution and visual presentation of apparel and textile products.

Sociology
Sociology is the study of human social behavior and sociologists examine interactions within and between groups and resulting social institutions. The undergraduate program in sociology provides a general analysis and broad understanding of human societies and culture for persons in all fields. Selecting courses around a topic or theme of interest adds meaning to one’s education and strengthens the base of understanding from which one can pursue a career or further education. Two options are currently available for those interested — Crime and Justice, and Environmental and Natural Resource Sociology — although students can shape a custom theme such as international development or social policy.

Oregon State University's natural resources undergraduate degree program will provide you technical skills and scientific knowledge that spans various natural resources and social science disciplines. As a natural resources major, you will study the science and management of resources such as fish and wildlife, forests, range and water, as well as the development of sustainable environmental policies and human dimensions of natural resources. You will learn to solve complex environmental problems through an interdisciplinary approach. This degree program prepares you for careers in resource planning, management, conservation, restoration and education within the field of natural resources.

The arts, media and technology degree prepares you for a career as a creative professional. The program's multidisciplinary curriculum integrates critical, theoretical and historical knowledge of the arts and media with the technical skills required for a career in the visual arts and design fields.

Graduate studies in Environmental Engineering at Oregon State University emphasize the understanding of fundamental scientific and engineering principles to manage and solve environmental problems in natural and engineering systems. The instructional program is designed to develop strong analytical, design, and management capabilities in the application of biological, chemical and physical processes. Students are prepared for careers in consulting and design, environmental monitoring and management, or teaching and research. Zoology

American Studies
What does it mean to be American? And where does American-ness stem from? Who qualifies as “We, the People,” and does it matter? What is the American Dream? Who might it leave out? Why?

American studies students confront these complex questions, exploring the enduring political ideologies, moments of cultural awakening and diverse perspectives that make America what it is. It’s all up to interpretation and that’s the fun of it!

As an expert in American identity, you will spend your days examining the interplay of disciplines such as history, literature, political science and sociology, adding your insights to the work of scholars past. What amazing places it will take you is anyone’s guess.
