International Year One General will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor's degree program at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Theatre
A theatre degree can give you performing arts experience as an actor, designer, stage manager, director, scriptwriter, costume and set designer, and much more. This degree could lead to a career in Hollywood, New York, or just about anywhere.

But before you see your name in lights, we first have to hone your talents and teach you about topics such as scenery, lighting, makeup, and even theatre history. But don't worry, we'll want to get you on the stage often during your education, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to put your new skills to use. In fact, with our state-of-the-art theatres and scene design shop, you'll have opportunities to participate in or create professional-level productions.

We are looking for students ready to accept a challenge. Our goal is to give students the background to use mathematics in a variety of ways through training in mathematical rigor. This can enhance your ability to analyze and solve problems in all walks of life. We also emphasize the development of communication skills, something useful in the classroom and the workplace.
You have a solid grasp of the science of numbers, but now you want a more theoretical and abstract understanding of math. In this program, we can give you the problem-solving skills you need for a career in business, government, teaching, or another profession.

As a matter of fact, chances are your job will require knowledge from at least one of our core courses: algebra, analysis, geometry, numerical analysis, probability/statistics, and topology. If you're an undergrad, you may want to take a look at our accelerated master's option. After that, you and your faculty advisor can sit down together, review your career goals, and decide which specialty is better for you. You'll have two options. If you want to pursue an advanced degree, such as a PhD, you'll probably want to choose Plan I (thesis option). With this plan you'll complete both your required coursework and a thesis based on original research. Plan II (non-thesis option) is great for enriching your current career or starting one upon graduation.

Students who successfully complete a Graduate Pathway program in cyber security are assured progression to a UAB graduate degree program upon submission of additional required application materials. After successfully completing the Pathway program, you are guaranteed to enter the graduate degree program. This transition to university from an INTO program is called progression.

Cyber Security
The Master of Science in Cyber-Security (MSSec) program is an interdisciplinary professional/practice graduate program intended to develop skills — familiarity with industry practices, innovative methods, critical thinking, and problem solving — crucial for competitiveness and success in the areas of computer forensics, information security management, and forensic accounting.
This program is intended to increase the pipeline of prospective, high-quality, entry- and advanced level employees involved with protecting physical and virtual systems — systems that are vital to the US and whose incapacitation or destruction would have a debilitating effect on national security and the nation’s economic system. The program also provides current employees in the public and private sectors an opportunity to obtain advanced-level, high-quality training in the core areas of computer forensics, information security management, and forensic accounting, to facilitate career advancement.

MS Cyber-Security involves faculty from the Departments of Computer Science and Criminal Justice (College of Arts and Sciences) and the Departments of Management, Information Systems Quantitative Methods, and Accounting & Finance (School of Business).

Biomedical Sciences
The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences (BMD) program prepares you for health-related graduate and professional study or for entry into one of the fastest growing occupational sectors.
Are you looking for a flexible and solid undergraduate degree that will prepare you for today’s fastest growing occupational sector? Then BMD is for you.
You will tailor your degree to fit your academic and career goals. The program, which includes coursework in physiology, pharmacology, clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology and immunology, plus the pathological basis of disease, includes six elective courses that you choose based on your individual health-related educational track.

Students joining our Integrated Master Program (IMP) will benefit from a degree-seeking I-20 while still receiving the additional support provided by INTO UAB, from the day they apply through their first semester on campus. Data Science
The Master of Science in Data Science program prepares graduate students for a professional career in the field of big data. Students will be equipped with fundamental knowledge and skills in data science and analytics, including:

• Machine learning,
• Modelling and quantitative analysis of massive datasets,
• Application of such technologies in strategic decisions,
• Critical skills for collecting and managing massive datasets, and
• Implementation of efficient solutions to real world big data problems using the most appropriate algorithmic techniques and software development tools available.

The program includes a set of core required courses and provides an opportunity for students to select from a wide range of electives related to data analytics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, business intelligence, and cyber security.

As a data scientist, you'll be using math, statistics, and programming skills to organize information and help businesses find solutions. Earning a master's in data science can help prepare you for a career as a software engineer, systems analyst, database administrator, research analyst, and more.

The Charles and Patsy Collat Industrial Distribution (ID) Program is a rare degree program that puts you at the center of one of the fastest growing fields in business.  Distribution professionals manage the flow of materials from manufacturers to distributors to customers- which means they play a key role in propelling the economy forward by supplying the building blocks for the products America creates and the world buys. Industrial distributors supply government, industry, and manufacturers, with products necessary for business and health care operations.

Graduates are prepared for careers with manufacturers or distributors in technical industries for sales engineering, logistics, marketing, inventory and purchasing positions as well as branch management.

The Master of Science in Forensic Science program is one of only 16 programs in the US accredited by FEPAC, the Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission. Our program prepares students for careers in various forensic science and conventional analytical laboratories, emphasizing the application of scientific methods and technologies to legal proceedings. It may also be used to build a strong foundation for doctoral and professional studies and offers the opportunity for students to pursue a graduate certificate in computer forensics that involves additional, elective coursework.

According to the National Institute of Justice, students wishing to pursue a career in forensic science should be aware that positions in these fields usually require extensive background checks similar to those required for law enforcement personnel, and are likely a condition of employment. Graduates of the UAB Master of Science in Forensic Science program are very successful in gaining employment within a year of graduating. During the period 2016-2019, 25 students completed the program. Of these, 22 (88%) are working in a laboratory or continuing their education (e.g., pursuing a doctorate, professional degree, or second master's degree). Seventeen of the graduates are employed in forensic science laboratories, two in a clinical, and one in a research laboratory.

Mathematics
Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. By understanding this universal language, you'll have problem-solving abilities that are useful in business, engineering, medicine, technology, and a seemingly infinite number of other fields.

In fact, many mathematics grads go on to work at NASA, Bell Labs, and even the National Security Agency. But to get there, you have to start here, with subjects like differential equations, advanced calculus, and mathematical modeling. If you're looking to further your education, consider our mathematics accelerated master's program, where you can complete both your bachelor's and master's in only four years. The BS in Public Health degree offers a broad overview of public health research and practice, introducing you to the multiple focus areas within public health (e.g., epidemiology, health behavior, health policy). Our students also gain hands-on experience working with community partners to improve the health of populations. Accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), the BS in Public Health degree is designed to prepare students to:

• Identify key health challenges facing a community, based on evaluation and synthesis of public health information.
• Recognize the importance of evidence-based strategies to address public health challenges facing a community.
• Advocate for improved health in the community, both orally and in writing, to diverse audiences.
