Communication Studies
Communication, whether verbal or nonverbal, is one of the most important skills prized by employers today. It can be an essential tool for success in a wide range of fields, including sales, emergency management, client service, public relations, and much more.

That's why, at UAB, we made this program so intensive. We want to make you the best communicator you can be. To begin, you will take classes covering topics such as writing, interviewing, pitching, and nonverbal communication skills. Then, you will also take leadership and management classes. Finally, your specific concentration will help you tailor your knowledge and experience. Choose from communication management, sports communication, or mass communication, which includes broadcasting, journalism, and public relations.

Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics is an emerging field that involves managing and analyzing large amounts of data about living things—data that will help us treat human diseases and make breakthroughs that will improve our lives. Graduates launch careers as data analysts, software engineers, research specialists, computational biologists, and data managers.

In fact, we specifically designed our bioinformatics program to prepare you for a wide range of career paths. We give you a solid foundation that includes biology, computer science, public health, math, genetics, and chemistry, as well as seminars, electives, and a capstone project. Then we show you how to put your knowledge to use with research projects, access to resources, internships, opportunities to study abroad, and other activities.

Computer Science
Computer science, simply put, is about computers, computer systems, and how they work. Careers in computer science have grown and become more important as computers have become a part of almost every industry.

To help prepare you for the workforce or graduate school, we actually reduced the math, science, and core computer science requirements to earn a BA in Computer Science. Why? So you can earn a non-computing minor or double major in a field such as art studio, biology, criminal justice, entrepreneurship, or professional writing. With that diverse background, you can apply the tools and techniques of computer science to solving problems in science, arts, humanities, business, engineering, and other areas. Your computer science classes will include Object-Oriented Programming, Computer Organization and Assembly Language Programming, and Algorithms and Data Structures, among others.
Computer science skills and techniques are routinely used in several areas of the arts, the humanities, and beyond, and graduates with computer science skills and the ability to create innovative solutions are in high demand.

New B.A. programs in computer science are emerging across the country. What distinguishes UAB's program is its inclusion of a minor, giving you significant exposure to a second discipline. This advantage is possible because of the program's reduced requirements in math, sciences, and core computer science.

Biology is the study of all living things—from molecules to entire ecosystems. And when you study all those things, you can do almost anything. Our alumni work in genetics, microbiology, spinal cord injury, brain development, and education, as well as in wildlife and nature conservation.

In our biology program, you'll have an amazing experience. For one, you'll be taught by our world-renowned faculty and scientists in state-of-the-art laboratories. You can even do fieldwork at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab on Alabama's Gulf Coast or in the Bahamas, Costa Rica, the Galápagos Islands, or Antarctica. Once you've completed your program track—Integrated Biology, Marine Science, or Molecular Biology—you'll have the prerequisites you need for medical, dental, optometry, or pharmacy school.  You can even get certified to teach biology or general science through the UABTeach program.

Students who successfully complete an INTO UAB Graduate Pathway program in business are assured progression to a UAB graduate business degree program upon submission of additional required application materials. Master of Business Administration
The UAB MBA program is decision-oriented, focusing on key aspects of modern administration, and it seeks to prepare graduates for leadership roles in business, industry, government, or social services. In order to deal effectively with increasingly complex problems of organizations, managers require training in sophisticated analytical techniques, an appreciation for the behavioral facets of management, and an ability to anticipate and adapt to changes in the organizational environment.

 Engineering Design
In the world of engineering design, you might be responsible for creating the next new camera phone, innovating a self-driving car — practically anything. The possibilities are endless, and at UAB, you can tailor your major to help you succeed in almost any aspect of engineering design.
So what exactly goes in a degree in engineering design? For one, our program includes a 15-hour engineering design and innovation core as the backbone to your education. It’s a three-course progression in engineering design as well as a two-semester capstone project. Plus we’re going to load your noodle up with all the fundamental math, science, physics, and engineering skills that you’ll need to embark on your career.
The Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree with a major in Engineering Design offers undergraduates a unique opportunity to earn an engineering degree tailored to their interest, with an emphasis on innovation and design.
The Engineering Design program is intended for students whose academic/scientific interests aren’t aligned with an existing engineering discipline or limited to one engineering discipline. The ideal student will be highly adaptable to different learning environments, prepared to work in interdisciplinary teams, and adept at hands-on learning.

Effective managers are vital to the success of every organization-from small start-up companies to multi-national corporations.  Why? Because managers are the ones who skillfully coordinate and control the activities of the organization to achieve business goals.  At the core of good management is the need to know how to attract, motivate and reward the best and brightest people.  Management is also about effective alignment.  Organizations are complicated systems that rely on the effective coordination of people, technology and organizational processes to be successful.  Managers drive this alignment through their skills of strategic thinking, strong communications and employee motivation to create business value.

Today’s business environment requires graduates who can effectively evaluate and make decisions, lead employees and manage resources. Management is ideal for people who like big picture thinking, can understand how processes work, have a passion for problem-solving and who can multi-task effectively to help create value for the organization. Management is also a great place to start for entrepreneurs interested in starting their own businesses.

Students joining our Integrated Master Program (IMP) will benefit from a degree-seeking I-20 while still receiving the additional support provided by INTO UAB, from the day they apply through their first semester on campus. A master of science in civil engineering equips engineers to advance in various industrial or academic career fields that emphasize high-level and collaborative research. An M.S. in civil engineering can serve as a step toward a Ph.D. in engineering, or it can provide the experience and credentials needed to increase competiveness in the job market. The program can be completed in as few as two years, though the typical student takes two courses per term for five semesters.

Specializations

Computer Science
Study computer science, and you'll learn how to analyze a problem and find a computational solution. A BS in Computer Science can help you prepare for a career in software development, programming, research, network administration, web development, and much more.

With 48 hours of computer science courses, the Bachelor of Science (BS) offers students a more technical route than the Bachelor of Arts (BA), which requires 36 hours. Your coursework will include math and natural sciences, and core courses such as Discrete Structures, Automated and Formal Languages, and Programming Languages will give you a foundation in designing, building, and understanding computer-based systems, processes, and programs. Honors students may wish to research, write, and publish a formal scientific report or give an oral presentation. You'll even be able to earn a teaching certification in mathematics through UABTeach and apply your STEM knowledge in the classroom.
