The M.H.A. program prepares students for public and privates sector leadership positions in health services and related organizations, such as hospitals, health systems, physician group practices, and health insurance plans.  Students develop knowledge and skills in contemporary management methods and policy decision making, integrating a population health management approach.  The curriculum develops skills in basic business disciplines with application to health services, a clinical and community perspective and professional skills. The M.H.A. program serves early to mid-career professionals, including those seeking transition into and advancement within the health care industry, as well as recent graduates of undergraduate programs.

Electrical Engineering-M.S.
The faculty of the Electrical Engineering Department at USF takes great pride in providing a high quality education to our more than 400 graduate students and invites you to consider joining us in advancing the frontiers of knowledge. Our student body is diverse, our research spans experimental and theoretical studies of many fundamental areas of electrical engineering, and we enjoy strong partnerships throughout industry and with prominent national laboratories and federal agencies. Most importantly our graduate students benefit from the dedicated, personal guidance of our faculty.

The faculty of electrical engineering hails from some of the finest institutions in the country, and includes NSF CAREER Award winners, Fellows of the IEEE and AAAS, Distinguished University Professors, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. Many serve in national leadership roles in technical societies such as the IEEE, have industry experience to complement their academic backgrounds, and lend their expertise to federal agencies such as The National Science Foundation and The National Institutes of Health. Some are very entrepreneurial and have founded spin-off companies based on their research. This diversity of experience enriches the learning and experiences of our students.

Sociology
The Sociology major is designed to provide students with a broad liberal arts education and a greater understanding and insight into the social systems and processes that bear upon everyday lives. Opportunities for students with Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology are quite varied. Some go on to work for human service agencies; others work in personnel, criminal justice, and urban planning; others enter graduate programs in sociology, education, law, medicine, or social work. Toward these ends, all students are encouraged to become skilled in the use of computers and libraries.

Philosophy
This degree prepares our majors to go on to graduate school, medical school, law school, or choose to enter the workforce in a wide variety of public, private, governmental, and non-profit agencies. Faculty in the department collaborate with an extensive group of disciplines, providing students across campus with a site for interdisciplinary learning and teaching. Given the intensity and rigor of study, including analytical reading and critical writing, our majors make themselves extremely attractive to potential employers

Contemporary organizations widely recognize the strategic impact of management. Effective management provides a system for aligning strategic and business goals that focus on meeting client expectations and producing desired outcomes. The foundation of this program is management theory, applications, manager skills and methods, and the tools required to successfully manage and navigate organization projects.

The purpose of this major is to provide management leaders with principles of project management; leadership and strategic analysis; creativity and analytics; organizational behavior, decision making, design and change; collaboration; agile development and scrum methodology. The major specifically focuses on project management leadership requirements, such as facilitating teamwork in diverse groups; empowering others; recognize and adapt to the constraints and opportunities of a global economy, and develop centers of excellence.

This dynamic, well-focused, progressive program provides a broad range of management concepts and skills. Much of the curriculum is delivered through case studies, class discussion, exercise, group project, videotaped role-playing, simulations, and prominent guest speakers from local and national business and non-profit organizations. Emphasis is placed on student participation and teamwork. All courses include writing, presentations, critical thinking, analytics and creativity.

Mass Communications-M.A.
The Master of Arts in Mass Communications degree requires 39 credit hours, including at least 30 hours of structured coursework and successful completion of a final thesis or applied research project. The Master of Arts in Mass Communications is earned through one of two concentrations: Media Studies or Strategic Communication Management.

The media studies concentration uses a broad approach to study mass media. This is ideal for students who wish to explore how media shapes the world and, in turn, how the world shapes the media.

The strategic communication track focuses on communication as a management function in an organization. This perspective integrates public relations, advertising, and marketing communication into a single focus.

The M.S. in Applied Aging Sciences familiarizes students with important questions and challenges relevant to older Americans, providing applied, interdisciplinary approaches and solutions. The program trains students to recognize that there are multiple perspectives on virtually all issues that confront individuals working in the field of aging, and to gain key skills in multidisciplinary gerontology. Graduates of the program possess the education and training necessary to staff, consult with, and lead the expansion of institutional and community-based programs, government agencies, and private sector initiatives that serve older adults in Florida, the nation, and the world.

The Biomedical Sciences degree serves as a gateway into a variety of health-professional programs such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Physician Assistant. Required courses include Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Physics. This degree provides the flexibility to choose advanced-level science coursework based on academic and professional interests. Students contemplating graduate study should pursue a major in the discipline of their interest, such as Biology, Chemistry, or Microbiology.

The Master of Science (M.S.) in Business Analytics and Information Systems (BAIS) meets the needs of the marketplace for expertise in analytics, information technology and management. Highly qualified individuals with motivation for leadership in information technology and analytics are encouraged to apply for admission to this program. The major meets the needs of organizations in information services, software development, management consulting, and other sectors wherer data analytics is used in industry. An Advisory Board consisting of senior business analytics and information systems executives works closely with the department to ensure that the program stays relevant and maintains high standards.

The major is offered in two forms – an on-campus option and an executive/professional option.

The on-campus option is designed to allow students a traditional classroom experience.  While most courses are offered face-to-face, some sections may be offered virtually.  Students will work with faculty to design the most effective course sequence and optional thesis/practicum /independent studies to meet the major curriculum requirements and accomplish their career goals.

Alternately, the online executive/professional option is intended for full-time working Information Technology/Information Systems/Business professionals who will pursue this degree while remaining employed. The executive/professional option is offered on a cohort basis with a pre-determined set of courses and independent study options selected by faculty based on market needs and student profiles. Students will benefit from an accelerated curriculum with a managerial and leadership approach. To get the full benefit, applicants are expected to have a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
