Our students explore the science of consumer behavior, combining theories from anthropology, sociology, psychology, economics and neuroscience to understand how consumers choose products —and how those choices affect the development of society and culture.

The Prince Program in Retail Management, established in 1905 by Lucinda Prince, is recognized as one of the few undergraduate programs specifically geared toward preparing students for a career in all aspects of retailing. Retailing is a major segment of the U. S. and global economy. Success in this industry greatly depends upon the retailer’s ability to adapt to changing demographics and lifestyles, respond quickly and effectively to global competition, utilize the available technology, and apply sound marketing and financial management. The Prince Program, leading to the BSBA degree, equips its graduates with the academic foundation and the experiential tools required to succeed in this environment. The major also provides an opportunity to acquire specialized knowledge about this large sector of the economy— the retail industry.

Nurses are always in high demand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of registered nurses (RNs) is projected to grow 7 percent from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. Furthermore, the need for trained nurses will never disappear.

Trained nurses with a BSN degree from Simmons University have the ability to work anywhere around the country—or even internationally. No matter where you end up, no two days will be the same in your nursing career. The constant changes and challenges of the healthcare field are undoubtedly demanding, but, more importantly, incredibly rewarding.

Nursing majors at Simmons graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, prepared for the registered nurse licensure (NCLEX) exam, graduate school, and entry-level nursing positions in offices, homes, hospitals, and schools.

BS graduates in chemistry work in laboratories developing pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, energy resources, solutions to environmental problems, and other areas of modern industry. A chemistry bachelor’s degree is also excellent preparation for professional schools of medicine or dentistry, especially with the increasing dependence of medical research and practice on knowledge of living systems at the molecular level. With the M.S. or Ph.D., a scientist can take responsibility for planning research and supervising laboratories. Excellent career opportunities are found in private industry, in government laboratories, and on college and university faculties.

The Arts Administration Program integrates art history, studio art and music with Simmons’ pre-professional programs in business, communications and information science to prepare students for leadership in today’s changing creative economy. Internships and other practical experiences in the field are made possible through an array of institutional partnerships in Boston and beyond. With this combination of discipline-specific knowledge, practical skill and professional experience, graduates pursue arts-related careers in fields like development, education, marketing and digital communications within nonprofit cultural institutions, performance organizations, museums, art galleries and auction houses.

You'll learn to craft intelligent and influential messages — even in 140 characters or less — and comprehensive public relations plans.

The Interdisciplinary Major in Public Relations and Marketing Communications is offered with the Business School and designed to provide grounding and experience in public relations and a firm understanding of the principles and implementation of marketing strategy. At its best, PR/MarCom education embodies intellectual traditions drawn from a wide range of social and hard sciences, as well as professional and liberal arts areas of concentrations. Students receive a BA in PR/MarCom.

A Bachelor of Arts in Writing trains you to write with insight, clarity, and creativity. It prepares you for a variety of career paths or further degree programs.

Students will develop appreciation for the art of writing and hone their own skills as writers. They  will be able to read closely, produce creative and critical written pieces driven by their own insights in conversation with the ideas of others, do research independently, reflect critically on their own writing, and talk intelligently about their insights in discussions or formal presentations.

Our students develop sophisticated understandings of writing through reading and producing essays, short stories, poems, and public humanities writings. Students learn to read with a writers’ eye by analyzing the craft of published authors.  They sharpen their critical skills and their writing technique by participating in peer workshops.  Guided by award-winning faculty who are poets, novelists, literary scholars, and cultural critics, Writing majors discover their own style and talent as thinkers and writers.

Writing majors learn to read with discernment and write with clarity and force. Such abilities enrich students’ personal lives while providing them with practical skills that serve them well in their professional lives. Writing majors discover their own voices, learn to collaborate and revise, develop skills of critical analysis and creative expression, and gain confidence in themselves as independent thinkers.

Our students are eager, intuitive and hard-working, expanding their understanding of French culture through in-depth courses and independent learning.

The major in East Asian Studies (EAS) is designed to provide students with knowledge and understanding of East Asia, a region that has become increasingly significant in the post-Cold War era. Students acquire this knowledge by studying an East Asian language as well as courses in other disciplines that may include art history, economics, film studies, history, literature, philosophy, political science, religion, and sociology.

The major prepares students for further growth beyond college along a variety of paths, such as graduate study, careers in education, employment abroad or in business and institutions specializing in East Asia, and service within and to the Asian American community.

You'll learn to speak and write articulately in Spanish, and immerse yourself in Spanish culture from history to literature.

In our media arts program you'll learn to communicate, uplift, educate, and create change through visual storytelling.

You'll explore the art and science of communicating across multiple media — including drawing, video, animation, digital imaging, web, photography, and radio — and gain confidence in your own vision. And you'll do it in Boston, with close proximity to the MFA, the ICA and numerous other world-class art museums and galleries.

Work on projects for local, non-profit clients with a team of your peers in our communications workplace, Studio 5, or tackle creative opportunities like working on Commtracks, our award winning senior magazine. You'll hone your advanced aesthetic abilities and apply them to real-world projects. Our students develop a keen understanding of all communications disciplines, from graphic design to journalism, making them instrumental to any creative workplace.
