Students in the Chemistry (Professional) program at Montana State delve into a core of chemistry courses and technical electives to prepare for careers within the field, as well as medicine, patent law, science writing and more. Depending on their interests, students are also encouraged to engage with additional mathematics and/or physics courses as well. Additionally, all students in the Chemistry (Professional) program are assigned to an on-campus lab to conduct laboratory research as part of their degree, preparing them for either on-the-job laboratory work or higher education.

In the German Studies program at Montana State, students are able to explore a full range of courses on German language, culture and literature. German Studies students start with a grounding of the German language throughout their freshman and sophomore years before delving into advanced language labs and other in-depth research surrounding German interests.

In the graduate Art History program at Montana State, candidates have the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with faculty that possess extensive experience in field, museum and archival research. The Computer Engineering program at Montana State is an interdisciplinary major that incorporates substantial coursework from both Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science. Students within the Agricultural Education – Communications, Leadership and Extension program at Montana State develop professional skills to advocate for the agriculture industry and educate diverse audiences on emerging agricultural issues. Depending on the students’ interests, they can focus on agricultural communications, agricultural extension, or agricultural leadership as part of their course of studies. Regardless of their track, every Agricultural Education – Communications, Leadership and Extension student completes a Leadership Fellows certificate, as well as an internship with an agricultural agency, Extension office or agricultural organization.

Students in the Mathematics program at Montana State start their journey with a core of mathematical analysis before embarking on coursework in abstract and linear algebra, as well as other classes that delve into subject matter that prepare students for potential employment as an analyst or computational specialist. The Mathematics program is flexible enough to accommodate students who are interested in industries such as business, government or scientific computing.

At Montana State, students in the Snow Science track have one of the best laboratories in the nation in which to study: the Rocky Mountains. Alongside some of the most preeminent scientists in the field, students gain a foundational understanding of the distribution, mechanics and composition of snow before further defining their study before graduation. Snow scientists find careers in snow safety and consulting in land use planning, transportation and avalanche protection, as well as post-graduate study to further prepare for positions in the field.

The Land Rehabilitation graduate program at Montana State covers the breadth and depth land management. Students focus on topics like site revegetation, soil remediation, restoration of riparian zones and stream channels and remediation of contaminated sites. Emphasis is placed on developing a broad understanding of soil, plant and hydrological processes as foundation to effective applications. 

Students in the Restaurant Management: Farm-to-Table option at Montana State dig into hospitality-specific subjects such as systems management, quantity food preparation and the culinary arts, as well as investigate sustainability due to the program’s emphasis on farm-to-table and healthful cuisine. Courses are conducted at Towne’s Harvest Garden, MSU’s organic campus farm, as well as with restaurant and food service management businesses in the community.
