Students in the Farm and Ranch Management program at Montana State learn how to manage farms, ranches and similar agricultural enterprises. Students study a broad spectrum of topics within agricultural specialization and business management in order to make the best decisions regarding production, crop and animal management, marketing, finance, and business organization for farm and ranch management.

In the Electrical Engineering department at Montana State, graduate students are granted access to innovative research labs and centers that allow candidates to explore cutting-edge issues in the field. Associated research entities include the Spectrum Lab, the Montana Nanotechnology Facility (MONT) and the Optical Technology Center (OpTeC), among others. In the Chemical Engineering graduate program at Montana State, graduate students advance knowledge at the frontiers of their field to generate solutions in medicine, energy systems and more. With a variety of degree paths that include a Master of Science (thesis and non-thesis) and Ph.D. options, graduate candidates are able to further their studies in a variety of ways. The Latin American and Latino Studies program at Montana State provides students interested in Latin American and Latino history, culture, and language with valuable interdisciplinary skills. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the program, Latin American and Latino Studies students are given the option to not only study courses focusing on Latin American and Latino socio-cultural subjects but other relevant content from other departments such as sociology, political science or gender studies, as well. Although the equivalent of four semesters of Spanish language is required, students with prior experience in Spanish language or heritage students may have some of those language requirements waived.

Students in the English Writing program at Montana State are expected to become skilled readers and writers through the study of language and literature. This option is also ideal for students who wish to double-major both in writing and another academic field. The study of literature and effective writing is useful in the areas of publishing, journalism, creative media and many other fields as various industries continue to seek people who are exceptionally literate and articulate.

Montana State’s interdisciplinary Data Science program draws on courses in three programs: Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics. Candidates within the program delve into topics such as machine learning, algorithms, data mining, and artificial intelligence while also gaining skills in data analysis and contextualization. With the education Master of Data Science students attain at MSU, they’ll be able to actively contribute to the field through technical writing, data visualization, presentations, and active software solutions.

In the Mental Health Counseling option at Montana State, students gain the skills to address a variety of mental health issues through the lens of human development, counseling theory, learning theory, group dynamics and the etiology of mental illness and dysfunctional behavior. Mental Health Counseling students engage in projects that enhance their personal and professional development as counselors and develop their knowledge and skills on how to identify and care for various client populations and their concerns. Each student in the Mental Health Counseling program undergoes 700 hours of supervised experience in appraisal, individual, group counseling, and consultation in clinic and community agencies prior to graduation.

Sociology is concerned with the study of human social behavior and the influence of society upon this behavior. In the General Sociology program at Montana State, students gain a broad and general foundation in Sociology, which allows them to fully customize their program focus based off of personal interest. Some of those specific areas of interest include social inequality, family and child relations, business and management, marketing and public relations, social services, health and medicine or pre-law.

Accountants are business professionals who work with others to identify, analyze and solve business problems. At Montana State, the Business – Accounting option is designed to help students develop the necessary technical expertise and broad-based business knowledge required for long-term success in careers such as auditing, assurance, tax consulting, corporate or non-profit accounting and finance, financial analysis, venture capital and financial planning. Montana State’s undergraduate Accounting program is specifically designed to help students experience a smooth transition toward entering the Master of Professional Accountancy program, ideal for if the student wishes to pursue their CPA certification or other advanced financial positions.
